Last week of July

Woohhhooooo

Pies and Tarts are all sewn down!!!

I am still going to add borders but this is the main part done....

More Field Journal embroideries have been cut and self framed.....

(warning... there are a lot of these - you will be seeing them for some time!)

The Pies and Tarts project started when I won a 'starter pack' from Glenis at Glenrose Patchwork..... she had provided loads of papers, cut out fabric, templates, and background fabrics.

All I have added is some additional background fabrics.

I managed to see her at the shop when I popped in yesterday and show her mine - and see the 'sister' she had made....

Righto, Gotto Go... I am going to dig in my fabrics to see if I have something suitable for a border....

Have a lovely weekend......

Third week of July

Lovely winter weather here this week, cold nights and beautiful days

I have sewn the last 2 of the Field Journal embroideries

They have been so fun to stitch and I will enjoy putting them all into hexagons.

I now have a pretty vast collection of the Cottage Garden Threads and a new project to use them in...... thinking ahead of course!

I have started sewing the tarts on.... you can see the flat ones are stitched down.  It's a challenge to grip the ones in the centre with all the fabric but I will take it slowly ......

I have done July's blocks for K-Drama-Drama BOM hosted by Meerkat Shweshwe
Modern, different, challenging and not overly time taxing....  I am improving my curved piecing - the light grey was added using buttonhole applique.

This week at Quilt Group they had a Mystery Quilt sewing day.  I got a fair bit done but brought the blocks home to trim and finish off..... they are all placed in their separate bags to avoid confusion.

I still have some homework to do... I'll try and finish these off this weekend so I can forget about them until the next sewing day in August.....

Righto, Gotto Go... I need to do a bit of sorting and tidying in the sewing room then off to town this afternoon.  We are going to watch this new movie Oppenheimer and then do the dreaded groceries.

Hope you have a lovely weekend.....

Christmas in July and FNWF

This week at Quilt Club we celebrated Christmas in July
(I haven't been to one before!)

Even Santa was there

Earlier in the year those of us who wanted to participate signed up for a challenge - we were all given a piece of fabric that had to be used.

Make a pillowcase suitable for a child up to 10 years old, that can also be a wallhanging ....  We had a viewers choice vote..

This was my pick ... and it came in second......

We had cake......

This was first choice.... lots of happy clowns....

Our table was very well decorated... it also happened to be the noisiest table - we read bon-bon jokes, wore the silly hats and even had snowman toy races....

This was my entry for the challenge

My point of difference was using Glow in the Dark fabric so this is what it does when the lights go out....  and of course swirly whirly quilting as the rocket flies.  I called it "Reach for your Dreams"

I do struggle making up things but I had a bit of fun..... all the finished articles will be displayed at the quilt show in September then donated on to charity (which is really why I joined in)

Wendy hosted FNWF and I was lucky enough to be invited to join a few others for a sewing evening so was able to double dip!

Finishing off the last few Field Journal stitcheries

There are 2 left - and heaps to go onto the hexagons.... so this 3 year project is extended longer

Righto, Gotto Go.... the week has many things happening....  hope you have a wonderful one....

2nd week of July

This week seems to have been crazy busy...

I finished off this sweet hanging.  Marina sent me the pattern some time ago.  It is a Kathy Schmidst design and now I'm looking forward to hanging this one up later this year!

.... and hooray the pies are all together.....  now I need to applique all the little tarts in between where the background blocks meet....

I will add a border I think - still considering what I should do.....

This week at sew day here... I sewed my red house (RSC colour is red this month)

... and made my red QAYG block (still to be quilted as you can see)

At sew time in the evenings I self framed these Field Journal stitcheries.... I'm just loving them....

My other red project did get started on Sew Day here but I had to finish them yesterday..... 21 little red buttons - I do love these ..... very cute but don't use up much of my scraps!!

So that's some of my monthly things done.... I am so enjoying some of these projects that I really don't want to put them down - but there are others I am so enjoying too!  lovely problem to have isn't it?

Righto, Gotto Go..... it is FNSI time and I'm actually meeting up with some girls to sew and chat and eat cake

I do hope you have a lovely lovely weekend....

First week of July

This week I finished off the edges for my whitework.  The border is done with a double back stitch and the square around the centre design is cable stitch (reverse faggoting)

Yesterday I learnt a slightly different backstitch to add to the edging.

I did sew my shirt blocks together ....  it is so hard to get a balance of colours when it is like this but eventually I had to just sew them.....

Two quilt tops done - different blocks with the same shirts..... next the quilting.  I have bought some lovely fluffy minky blankets so they will be very snug.....

as soon as I had it down on the floor the cat came in to inspect.......  and destroy!!!

I have started sewing my self binding hexagons using the Field Journal embroideries..... there is quite a pile waiting to be done.....

Though very pretty liberty fabrics were included I decided I wanted a softer pallete with mine (so I will use the liberty fabrics for something else)

I do love it..... long long way to go....

This week I did some catch up on my monthly QAYG by On Williams Street.  The blocks are being made using the colours for RSC and the quilting by OWS instructions....

April, May and June.....

Fun learning some different quilting designs and she is helping with getting an eye in to not have to stop start but keep going into the next section....

Quilt Group have started a Mystery Quilt.....  I only agreed to participate because a couple of other friends said they would ... and I could get the fabrics ready chosen by the club as mine will be a Community Quilt...

First section is done... cutting and labelled!  I now have the first 'clue' so will start that next week

One of the embroidery ladies gave me a good tip for my hoop... to add bias around the edge so that it gives better grip....

It was a little bit fiddly sewing it but easier than I thought it would be ....   and it does make a difference.

I am yet to get some nylon ribbon to add to the other part of the hoop.

So there we have my crafty week.....

Righto, Gotto Go... It's a Friday sew day... morning with friends and afternoon with the quilting machine ......

Have a lovely weekend.....xx
