Working on those long neglected projects...

We have had a spate of public holidays over the last few weeks .... it's a good opportunity to take the day off normal duties and sew for myself!!

I  made up these shopping bags from furnishing cotton - they are not lined, but boxed and will be great for going shopping.  Trying to be better about not taking the plastic in the shops (I used to be so good but somehow got forgetful about my bags)....

Now Hubz and I each have some in the boot of our car so we are always ready (I just need to remember to take them out the boot at the shops!!! grrr I get cross with myself)

Last year my friend Michelle gave me this sweet pattern and fabric and I did up the stitcheries... then it became a UFO....

Well now it is two cute little finishes....

Naughty Lyn and Christine were trying to work out just how much I could stuff into the pouches for them at Christmas time....  so I might need to make more!

I did the stitcheries of a quilt by Rosalie Dekker over the last few years (in fact I still have some left) but I chose not to make them into a quilt and I am slowly trying to make them into smaller gifts.  This week I added a flange border and blocks around one....

With help from friends in putting this together it will become a cushion.... What is even better I am using fabrics left over from a quilt top I made a couple of years ago (which is itself a UFO)....

These two pieces will be for the envelope back...  I want to quilt front and back before joining them together....

... so I am using left over scraps from one UFO to finish off another UFO.....  oh gosh...

Righto, Gotto Go.... This months Rainbow Scrap Challenge colour is green - so I'd like to get my basket made today - but first a cup of coffee......

Ìt is nice to know i am not alone in the ufo department, at least you have a very good plan for using up some UFO's, really sweet stitchery. I have made grocery bags as well and also have to remind myself to bring them along 😉

Because food disappears from the fridge at an hourly pace around here, I am regularly visiting grocery stores. Just like you, a reusable bag full of bags is always in my car, at the ready for the eventual pit-stop for more food. :^D
You have made such lovely stitchery. Love the cushion. Love the idea of using UFO's fabric to finish a UFO. That must be the epithet of the reduction of waste. Great job! Enjoy the green. ;^)

Great shopping bags Fiona now to remember them !
Your little stitcheries look great as wee goodie bags and your UFO made into a table runner is lovely 😊

Great work with the shopping bags Fiona - I keep a couple of baskets and a few bags in the car and we have got much better about remembering to take them shopping! Beautiful little pouches and how very organised on finishing up your fabrics in your UFO's. xx

Nice scrap outcomes. Would like to see the red and white quilt that is still a UFO? Perhaps we can "help" from afar?

This is the piece that you were stitching in the Instagram video, isn't it? Pretty fabrics! Red and tan are so classic together.

Your shopping bags look great, too. Is "furnishing cotton" what we Yanks would call upholstery material, something that would cover a chair? Or maybe canvas? Thicker than quilting cotton and so more sturdy for hauling groceries, right?

Love the shopping bags, they are a great idea. I too take bags to the supermarket, bring them inside, store them in the pantry and forget to take the the next time!!! Maybe yours need to live on the seat next to you??? Great to see you quilting on Instagram..wonderful all your scraps are getting another use.

Oh, my goodness, your work is always so delightful! I haven't made any stitcheries in awhile, but I have a stack that I should pull out and do something with! After seeing your finished creations, today just might be the day! xo

What a great way to use the stitcheries Fiona... if their destiny is to not become a quilt, you're doing right by them, in using them for other projects.

Great finishes all round. Smart to make the shopping bags and, yes, you have to remember to use them. Common problem for all of us!!
The little gift bags are lovely with the sweet stitchery.
And I do like the way you are using Rosalie's design. The fabrics are a perfect match. What are they? Great to be using scraps from other projects. No scrap left behind!

love the stitcheries! The bags are a great idea. I'm terrible for leaving them in the boot of my car, but if I do, I just load all my shopping back in the trolley and wheel it to my car where I pack my bags!
