Churn Dash SAL update ....

Earlier this month 9 more Churn Dashes were completed for Chooky's Churn Dash SAL....

I had to change the pink for these blocks as I had run out...

You can see here a very slight change.. they are a little lighter so I kept them as a group in the middle....

And here is the top all together.....

I am pushing ahead on this one as we will be spending time with family when the SAL finishes.... I know there is no pressure but I don't really want to end up with yet another UFO

I bought enough of the new pink to make a binding...

and my new doona cover from the Swedish shop has been cut in half... it's just perfect.  The pink and green in there are a great match for the front....  and I love it...

It's loaded up and quilting has begun.... I am doing an all over meandering ribbon... keep it nice and soft

Meanwhile handwork has resulted in another block for Civil War Bride... I have really cooled down doing this and need to do more preparation.

I did make an adaption in this one.. there was a rope in the hands of the man and the elephant was tied to it.... left that out.

Righto, Gotto Go... I have some Churn Dashes to quilt.....

Looking forward to seeing other versions...

Spoke too soon!

Having finished the big half hexagon Urban City quilt top, made it's binding and found a backing - it's now put away for another day....

and vowing never to do another EPP project someone posted their pies and tarts quilt and I remembered a box ......

I won a starter pack some time ago  ... lots of pieces already cut out and basted, plenty of templates and even quite a few bases to applique the pies onto...

I have a lovely range of reproduction pieces to add to this - at least it is not all EPP - there is also applique and machine piecing... so this will be my main pick up and go project for a while...

My crazy dots quilt is all put together now....

and I got some green to use as binding.... it's all ready with it.... haven't sorted a backing yet...

I did a bit of mini quilting this week....

And have done 17 sections of 97 sections for Elephant Abstraction by Violet Craft... one I've been wanting to do for ages...

It is all Foundation Paper Piecing - lots of preparatory work, lots of pieces all over the place, lots of mess, lots of pressing, lots of removing papers....

But I was having so much fun ......  this is the elephant trunk .... you can see it is beginning to turn at the end so you don't see the snout yet.  This part is 1.4m long .

I would like to get the next section at least prepared this week... it will be a slow project since I can't keep to one thing at a time and this one needs me to concentrate.  I already had to throw 2 made sections away as I had cut them on the wrong line!

Righto, Gotto Go.... time for a cuppa..... hope you are having a relaxing weekend.... xx

Moving Along.....

I made myself a new washcloth....  this one is a bit bigger than usual and is made in scrubby yarn.

Some more stitching for Field Journal has been happening.....

One with a bit of applique and another hexagon...  I like how the rose was done in buttonhole/blanket stitching... gives a nice effect...

My Christmas Fairy wallhanging is all done now.... binding and hanging sleeve included....

Chloe's Christmas is a pattern by Annie Downs....  I was given a kit which I love and therefore didn't need to choose fabrics etc...

I wonder if I will bother to decorate this Christmas???? hmmmm

My half hexagons Urban City quilt top is done now.... I am very happy with the blue border

... and I have selected a backing for it....

Not sure when I will actually do the quilting but I do feel a great sense of achievement.  this whole top was hand sewn and I will NEVER EVER do an EPP top again..... ok... NEVER EVER.....

Righto, Gotto Go.... always something to be done isn't there...  have a wonderful rest of the week...x

FNSI success ....

3rd Friday of the month is FNSI hosted by Wendy..... anybody can join in.... just keep an eye out on her blog for the sign ups.  There is also a Facebook page which gets some socialising happening on the Friday nights as people share what they are doing.

When I can it's an all day event for me..... I had some boring shopping chores to do in the morning and then I set out to play in my sewing room.

The BOM from National Quilt Museum (BOM 2021) has its sashing and binding done - all done by machine.  A bit of wrangling and manouvering in the machine and many pin pricks later.

I used some pretty hand dyed fabrics for the backs of each QAYG block so there is a bit of an interesting back too.

In the evening I continued with hand appliqueing the half hexagon top (Urban City) onto a border...

I have procrastinated on this one for ages, not being sure how to do it.... a friend helped me decide.

So far 2 evenings have been spent on this.... I would say it will be finished tonight.... then the search for a backing will begin...

Righto, Gotto Go..... Hubz is off for golf today... and I will play, play, play....

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.....xx

the next things.....

Just going to rock with the no focus thing......

The stars have been added to the Christmas wallhanging..... minus a number of points....

These QAYG blocks have had sashing added.....  and Marilyn has helped with how to add the borders QAYG ....

Each block is like a little quilt on it's own... rather fun...

I have made 9 Churn Dash blocks.... and now I have enough to put them together....  Chookyblue is hosting the Churn Dash SAL.....

This is how the scraps are being put together.....

I saw Julie's one (see HERE) and she kindly shared the sizes of her pieces with me....  She made smaller blocks after seeing Donna's one (seen on THIS post with the grey sashing)

It is my "leaders and enders" project and is being useful as I do these blocks

A set of 9 fat quarters of spots which I have had for a while and thought this simple design would be good....

too many dots made my eyes go funny

so I have decided to add dark grey as sashing...

Not totally sold on the look but it is better than no sashing - and it will be a slightly bigger quilt - I will add borders in the grey.

This week I tried out something different for quilting and did a ribbon with butterflies... I love it... not too heavy and quite pretty for a young girl

Righto, Gotto Go - borders to add to the sampler, quilting to be done to the wall-hanging, churn-dashes to lay out,  grey sashing to be added to the dots and include leaders and enders ....

Hope you have a good rest of the week....xx

A bit of this and a bit of that.....

Lately I find it hard to focus.....

I have knitted a couple more dishcloths from cotton yarn.... a car project which I don't need to watch what I am doing....

I've started taming the scraps (haha that will never happen) for a new scrap quilt....

I have finished putting together the EPP for this quilt.... now I need to get borders on and I am procrastinating...

This cute Christmas wallhanging (applique done ages ago) has a new green border...

... and I have been working on the stars for the next border....

Evening time applique has seen this block done for Civil War Bride....

... and  a little bit of embroidery to do this block for Field Journal....

.... quite a lot done but this and that.....

and the week has gone... just like that...

I hope you have a lovely weekend.....xx

Righto, Gotto Go..... coffee, coffee, coffee....

Rainbow Scrap and some Crochet

I missed June and am late with July..... but here are my blue and purple scrappy fish....

I decided that I would stop here and joined up what I had (and put a couple of fish in the bin)

It's very scrappy.... and in my opinion pretty crappy too..... but it is a work of art with a deep story of sea polution, global warming, world confusion, etc.... I just have to make up the story then it becomes a meaningful piece of modern art.....

Meanwhile I have finished my scrap crochet blanket....

It fits the top of a double bed - a nice size

I used scraps from 4 other tops I have made over the years - all the same ply yarn.

This pattern is Cosy Stripe Blanket by Attic24....

Mostly I did two rows in the same colour, there is a few with only one row

... and there was enough of a few colours to do the rounds in the borders....

There is still scraps of yarn, just less now... not sure what I can do with them if anything....

Righto, Gotto Go.....  it's FNWF and I must sort out what I will sew ....

Have a lovely weekend
