Goodbye May ....

This month for WOOFA I got this little quilt finished....

Thanks Cheryll for the encouragement to get some work done on those unfinished projects....  I still have lots hanging over from previous years to do.... but I keep finding new things instead!!

I am keeping on going with Civil War Bride and this is Block 8 done....

My crochet blanket is slowly growing.... I do need to concentrate on this wave and I seem to get mixed up quite a bit so I only do it when I am able to sit quiet on my own and count....

Another project I am needing to concentrate on is this Blackwork....  a lovely group (I join online) from Brisbane find some fun projects for us to do together.  I have never done Blackwork so it's good to have this challenge.

As you can see I haven't got very far....

This weekend we had a Languages and Cultural festival in the city..... it was a beautiful Autumn day so we went along...

The Giant Kookaburra was there laughing and singing..... very cleverly done

there were various forms of entertainment... martial arts....

advertising for Llama walks....

These are an Afghan sweet called Sheer Pira.... very nice with chopped fruit and nuts in it...

There was lots of dancing and singing from groups and we sat nearby a stage to watch and listen...

A Greek lady was selling home made Baklava and Turkish Delight....  soooo goood....

Quite a few food stalls which were popular and had very long queues ....

Young Xavier helps his Dad and Mom at a coffee van, it was near one stage so a lovely place to sit and listen whilst get treated to a regular supply of coffee....

A relaxing day out.... I was a little bit disappointed as I thought there would be a lot more from the different cultures we have in this area... but those that did participate did a great job....

Righto, Gotto Go... I think I will try and get another row of that crochet done whilst I have a cup of tea....

Hope you all have a great week....

This week.....

We watched the lunar eclipse last night... well we popped out every now and then to see where it was and looked at the online observatory pictures which were clearer...

I have finished the needleturn on the 4th block for From The Heart....

At quilt group I started sewing my half hexagons into groups of 3..... a light at the top, medium to the right and dark to the left.... (some reverse sewing was required)
These sets of 3 are not joined but it gives an idea of how they come together.... long long way to go...

I was gifted some lovely fabrics this week.... 8" or more strips so there is plenty to make a good sized quilt from it.....  I think it's quite an old range but beautiful quality fabrics and they are worth stroking!

I have already started chopping....

Our Agave plant has a flower spike.....  they are very impressive!

This spike is about 2.5m long

The flowers are opening on the bottom section where you can see it's a bit fuzzy in the above picture...

Hundreds of beautifully formed flowers...

One of the aloes has lovely fat buds... they make me think of pangolins....

This image is off the computer... The Ground Pangolin is an endangered species in Zimbabwe and strongly protected.... sadly it continues to be trafficked for the 'medicinal' properties in the scales....

Anyway you can see why the aloe reminds me of this intriguing mammal....

Righto, Gotto Go... still pressing and chopping those lovely new to me fabrics....

Have a lovely rest of the week.....

FNSI

Thanks Wendy for hosting FNSI..... always fun to sew with others even if it is distantly...

I started this next block for "From the Heart" on Thursday so continued with the needleturn on Friday night whilst watching Vera on TV ......

I am now this far, still a fair bit to do... a couple more nights and it should be done...

I carried on with pressing and trimming the HST's today and have 4 coordinated piles.... I will get 40 pinwheel blocks out of these - I will need to add some plain fabrics to makes something that is a more useful size.....

There is an odd feeling of accomplishment having a nice little pile of trimmings!!!

Righto, Gotto Go.... I'll keep going with that needleturn.... and pop over to other blogs and see what the other FNSI'ers did.....

Enjoy the rest of your weekend...

A sweet finish....

This sweet baby pram quilt finally got the binding sewn down this week....

I used left over fabrics from a project and added the plain pink....
I love than pinwheel backing....

The third block for "From The Heart" is done and Block 4 has been started.  There are 9 blocks to do for this one...

I did a bunch more of half hexagon pieces this week..... I need to start organising them into light, medium and dark next....

I have changed from making small squares with this yarn and now doing one piece.... I want it to be a light shawl....

Four more blocks for my Medallion Foundation Paper Pieced mini quilt....  these are taking me about an hour each.  These blocks will finish 4 x 2".  I hope to get some more done over the weekend...

I found a packet of folded HST's whilst sorting the other day... these were left over from a sample made for a shop.  There is quite a lot of them.  In between quilting when I need a stretch I go over to the ironing board and press a few.....  next will be all the trimming to size!

Another busy sewing week doing a bit of this and a bit of that ..... my stick blender died when I was trying to puree the pumpkin soup so that will need to be replaced and this morning the chest freezer was tripping the electricity so that is being retired too.... Luckily I was able to squeeze all that was in it to a fridge/freezer...  we won't bother replacing that.  Hopefully the light bulb that blew counts for the third thing!!!

I hope you have been having a good week... and got some stitching done... and didn't break any implements....

Righto, Gotto Go.... tea time smoko is over!

That week that was.....

This last week went by so fast I woke up this morning thinking it was Tuesday!!!! duh

Sunday was Mothers Day here.... local daughter was working and the rest are too far away but I did have a picnic lunch gifted by them to pick up...

It was a lovely assortment of goodies from a lovely family run cafe....

A local park had live music on and it was a perfect Autumn day for sitting and enjoying...

I did take my crochet, but I kept making mistakes and did more undoing than doing.... (could have been that bottle of sparkling wine though)

I made more of my little blocks....

Now I have enough for the centre of the medallion.....

Tuesday was High Tea Cuppa for Cancer morning tea at Quilt Group...

There was also an Op-shop fashion show which was a bit of a giggle....
I won a trim ruler as a door prize....

On another day my Aida arrived.... this year I will learn blackwork with a few friends...

Wednesday was some quilting time and I did this sweet baby quilt made from the leftovers that I really loved...

swirls and hearts and feathers.....

Then I pulled out some fabric I have had for ages and started chopping it up to make a quilt...

Thursday I had a couple of friends over for sewing..... I got on and made up microwave bowl holders.  They only use 10" squares so I was able to find lots amongst the recent gift of scraps I was given....

I didn't read the sign on this piece.... !!!!   I better keep that one myself or I might lose a friend!!!

There is a good assortment.. I made 9 which is an strange number but that was how many wadding pieces I cut out from the scraps!

And now it is Saturday and not Tuesday so I will have to get this weeks quilting job done.....

Righto, Gotto Go..... coffee first...

Have a lovely weekend....
