November!

Thank you Kris for hosting OPAM..... this month I did get my pretty Nature Panel quilt finished.... well all I needed was quilting and binding as the top didn't need any work!

I had done the quilting in October and finished off with the binding this month...

Thank you Cheryll for hosting WOOFA... working on some of those 'in the queue' projects...

I carried on with quilting ....  these blocks were from a 9 patch swap done in 2013!  I made a couple of tops with all the patches I had.... the other one was made and gifted in 2016... you can see it HERE if you are so inclined.....

and I also put this quilt top together.... after a few years of waiting....

It has now progressed to the waiting for a backing queue but has it's binding ready and waiting...

This is another UFO top that has been laying around in a plastic box.... it was made several years ago....

I need to buy some red for binding for this one....

Meanwhile handwork has continued in the evenings.... I've done a couple more of my coloured blackwork....

Roses.....

and Dutch Iris.....

Trying to get a few leaves done each night for the next Civil War Bride block....  it looks a bit spindly at the moment!!

Progress has been made on the Jelly Roll quilt fabric sent by Sue.... I am doing two quilts... a larger one using the darker fabrics in the roll and then a baby size using the lighter fabrics....

These are put away ready for a machine sew day with friends later this week....

Righto, Gotto Go......

The sun is shining today, washing is hanging out, mowing is having to be done again....  but I will be off to the sewing room of course....

Hope you have a wonderful week.....

Show and Tell.....

This week was Quilt Group day... so I have some show and tell pictures for you....

Some of them didn't have sheets with information about them...

I loved this caravan one....

Here is one of the pictures close up... lovely detail

I think this was a Community Quilt donation one...

The woman organising the Community Quilts is pretty amazing in getting things done.  A lot of planning, cutting and arranging beforehand.  She had a bunch of quilt tops which had been kitted up with backing and wadding so I brought a couple of them home with me to do over the next few weeks.

I haven't opened them up so have no idea what is in there!

I continued on with Inner city.... the width of these is 72" now (I need to fill in the gaps on the sides) but I think I want to go quite a few more rows down so that will be next....  time to join more pairs.

I did get quite a few of the Blackwork sweets done....  doing 4 of these a month with friends...  so I am up to date

A lovely swap from Maria arrived this week....  I do love cheerful kitchen towels so this is perfect.  I forgot to photograph the one I sent off but it is somewhere over the Nullarbor Plains on it's way there ...

Managed to get a skein of the thread I am using for my (coloured) blackwork garden so I have taken it out to do again...  I am a few beds behind and would like to have all these done by the end of the year... and add a small border.

This one is called Ascepias which I have never heard of... but they are pretty in their flowerbed.

Of course I have a quilt on the frame too... this is one I made several years ago....

Righto, Gotto Go..... Hubz is out mowing as more rain is due to come and the lawn is looking a bit like a wheat field.... I am off to chop up bits a pieces for supper.... Chicken Fajita's.......

Have a lovely rest of the week....

The week that was.....

Tuesday sewing group I continued putting half hexagons together (EPP)  - it's a big folded up mess in the big bag at the moment....  I think I am about half way through now...

A fair bit of my own sewing and quilting was done...

I finished off the quilting on Dutch Treat.... straight lines between the blocks and a few ruler work curves on the border...

I have added a peeper on the binding edge and the binding is sewn down... just the hand work to do now...

I love the backing... it is a 100% cotton sheet (or doona cover) from the big swedish store.... (I love their sheets for backings)

This quilt top has been in the making for a while - I started it at retreat in August and then have continued on my sew days with the girls.... this weekend I put the final two borders on... (I thought I had finished it before but forgot about the borders... which do make a difference ....

and made the binding .... so now it has gone to the quilting queue....

I pieced the left over bits from the jelly roll together..... I will incorporate these into the backing....

Gotta love no left overs....

This quilt went on the frame for some quilting.... repeat feather pods over each block....

I will make and add the binding later today....

... and I pieced the sashing on these blocks.....  a fat quarter quilt but I changed it a bit to add the grey peepers and the sashing -

Hubz has done this jigsaw..... so many similar pieces but he persevered....

Van Gogh Alive is on in the city so we took a day trip to see the exhibition...

I didn't take a heap of pictures as it is one of those experience things

The outside all changed... I think it was an old warehouse they used ...

He was a prolific letter writer, as well as artist and I enjoyed many of his quotes shown...

In the starry night room.... very cleverly done with painting, mirrors and strings of lights...

In the sunflower field at the end.....

I stood by the picture like Hubz jigsaw.. they made a life size one at the show....

Had a beer in the cafe made up like one of his paintings.... was a fun day out......

Righto, Gotto Go..... supposed to be a wet week coming up

Quilt Group .... and a parcel!

This fortnight Tuesday was my Quilt Group day.... as usual there was some magnificent Show and Tell....

These were so dainty and pretty....

As you can see club is not strictly quilting.....

sometimes the simplest of quilts come out so well.... lovely and bright

I do love Tim Holst fabrics and this pattern just matched the fabrics so well I thought.....  I would have happily snuck this one into my bag!

I took along my whole cloth quilt....  some close up details of the quilting are found HERE

The group is a registered charity and as well as quilts they have been making bags for use by people having Breast Cancer treatment...  on the table were a bunch that we cut out so members could take home and sew....

My quilts have been carried to quilt group in this draw string bag made out of some kind of stretchy holey t shirt stuff.....  useful but not that pretty - I made a bunch of them a while ago and lots have found new homes....

When I got home I spied a parcel behind the pot plant at the front door (we have the most wonderful postie)

Sue recently had a birthday celebration and give away and lucky me won it...

Inside was the jelly roll and pattern as well as a couple of gorgeous kits and a beautiful big bag which she made from the left overs of her quilt

These are the fabrics in the roll... and I found a fabric in my stash which will be perfect as the background (it looks very grey here but it is in reality quite a blue grey)

The pattern is by Sew Preeti Quilts....  she makes the most delightful quilts - (a couple of years ago I made Sister blocks which she had designed).  Sue's version is HERE

Looking forward to doing this one.... need to sort out some cutting time....

The bag in the parcel was HUGE.... so now it is going to be my posh new take to group quilt bag ....

Righto, Gotto Go... I seem to have a few things to do....

Today is Rememberance Day... the day the guns went silent to end WW1... but there are many other wars too so we remember them all

I have my Paternal Grandfathers Bible... he was a Church Minister and served during that war.  My Dad served in the second.

A pocket Bible which was clearly well used...

The writing is tiny....

Lest We Forget......

I only wish mankind would learn and stop fighting about everything....
