Still UFO'ing.....

That's a bit of a silly title for me as I could keep myself busy all year just working on my UFO's and nothing else!!!

Taking a short break from the Dutch Treat Blocks I carried on with some of my embroidery.  This is a kit and the design is Nancy Nicholson.    Her designs really appeal to me and I mustn't look at her page or I will be tempted!!!

This one is called Long Tail Bird and is the most complicated embroidery I have done... and I learnt some new stitches....

It is for a cushion and of course I needed a visit to my favourite LQS (The Quilters Angel) and found this lime green linen for a frame and the back of the cushion.  That purple maroon will be for some piping around the edge ..... I'm getting so brave to tackle piping!!!

So I took out another UFO which I had quilted some time ago.  The white is a old table napkin I think and I used a pale blue embroidery thread for the quilting...

.... something delicate.  I'm thinking of turning this into a table topper with a bit of lace around the edge......

Lastly my teeny weeny off cuts from a quilt made into 1 1/4" HST's (before sewing) have been sewn together.....

It is a new design of mine called fractured!!!!

I now have even more admiration for people who make mini quilts.

I can't say I'm proud of it.... and I don't like it very much... I might be getting a new pot holder....

Righto, Gotto Go... I want to go dig into my little box of laces and see what I can find....

  1. Love, love, love the long tailed bird. Beautiful!! The lime green fabric will make this bird sing for sure. Piping isn't that hard if the fabric is cut wide enough. I have faith in you; you can do this. How big is the new pot holder? Personally, I think it is an awesome little mini. ;^)

  11. Your long tailed bird is a beautiful creature, and will be complimented very well with lime green and purple! Such a pretty table topper too. 1-1/4in square is very weeny once you take the seam allowance into account, you are very brave. I would have chucked them.

  14. Love your table topper, that is so pretty with just the two colours and the beautiful quilting. Happy making my mini quilts, as my quilting skills will never match yours. But have to admit that half square triangles in mini are a real pain - so understand your pain here! Do you own any clover forked pins? I find they help alot. Plus I play a bit with pressing seams, still now worked everything out, but I do understand alot of mini makers trim their seams after sewing the 1/4 allowance, to reduce the bulk.

  17. I like what you're doing with your UFOs. I love the title "Fractured" and am thinking of borrowing that name for several of my projects. That embroidered bird is out of this world. Fantastic!

  18. Gorgeous embroidery and 'Fractured' is a great way to use up cut-offs :)
Pretty sure I could sew all year and not go near a shop ... but then there's always that 'one more piece' of fabric to finish a project.

  22. I love the colors on the Long Tail embroidery! And yes, it's very brave to tackle piping. I'll be watching closely for your tips about that, since I haven't tried it myself. I need to redo the pillow covers on the upper deck of the boat, and piping would be spiffy on those...
