FNSI March

Thanks to Wendy for hosting FNSI ..... even though I usually sew on Friday night getting together (virtually) with friends and working on specific projects does make a fun difference to me....

I did work on a bit of my own quilting in the morning ....

flower type design on this small quilt....

it's about 20 x 24" so just little and didn't take long at all....

I do like the texture....  this little quilts was made from leftover scraps of another quilt I made using this range.

A good friend visited earlier this year and remarked she loved the quilts so I got her to choose a top she liked and promised to finish it off....

this top was made from the scrap bin... I had been given a large pile of red pieces already cut (I think 4.5 x 2" or something like that....

Its all quilted in a sort of wood grain style (since he works in wood)

This one took most of the day and I enjoyed listening to The Survivors by Jane Harper (author of The Dry which was made into a movie starring Eric Bana), whilst doing the quilting.

In the evening I sat down with some hand work and finished the grapes on this block.

Block 4 of Civil War Bride

Here is an update of all the blocks together..... so enjoying this project ...

I didn't have many grapes to do before it was finished so I stitched down the binding on this quilt, which has been languishing in the cupboard for a long while.....

I quilted it some time ago.... orange peels in the plain blocks and left the alphabet ones empty... keeps the quilt quite soft..

Today is a new day and I will sew on the bindings to the two quilts I quilted,  and then hopefully work on the borders for my Schoolgirl Sampler....

Big floods in NSW coastal areas... thinking of you and hope everyone will be safe....

Righto, Gotto Go.... coffee is calling

Sewing Days

I had a couple of sewing days with friends this week.... On Tuesday morning I went to Quilt Club and continued with glueing and sewing half hexagons...

I have a nice little pile starting.....

On Wednesday I had a few girls around for some chat and stitch time....  it is a good time for me to catch up on machine sewing...
I had the last 12 blocks for Schoolgirl Sampler cut and ready for sewing...

a little bit of unpicking did have to happen....

obviously some blocks are easier than others....

... and then I sewed their sashings and corner stones and added them to the rest of the blocks....

now there is borders.... and lots of HST's to be made but I'm happy to have got this far with it.  So far I have used pieces of Tilda fabrics left from other projects.. purchased some plain grey for the sashing and the gold for the cornerstones....

Righto, Gotto Go..... all the playtime means there is now work to be done!!

Have a lovely rest of the week....

Happenings.....

It's been a busy week  ..... always lots to do isn't there?...

On Friday it was lovely to meet up with Janice (and her trusty sidekick Mick) and Kris for a quick lunch..... Janice has been travelling and visiting rellies in the area so it was wonderful that she was able to fit in a lunch date.  She did bring her lovely Blockheads quilt to show (silly me forgot to take a photo but you can see it HERE)  It has now been quilted and bound and is just gorgeous.

I think we colour coordinated our outfits very well....

Yesterday I spent a fair bit of time choosing fabrics for the last 12 blocks for Schoolgirl sampler.  In the blue lid container I have a bunch of fabrics cut to make into HST's for a border....
A machine sewing day with friends is planned on Wednesday so I hope to get them done then....

For my handsewing I did finally finish this quilt.....  I made it ages ago.  One of those clever patterns that you make a block, cut it up and twist around and sew up again... (Turnabout Patchwork by Teresa Barreu)

An all over quilting pattern in the main part and some swirls in the border....

I used a cut up doona cover for the backing.... the colours and design were just right...

Very happy with this quilt.... its not to big... lap quilt size...

I have done a couple of small gift items that have been sent off (I keep forgetting to take pictures!)

Righto, Gotto Go.....I do hope you have an enjoyable rest of the weekend...

My sewing week

I have completed another block for Civil War Bride....  it seemed to take ages 3/20 done -  a way to go

some more machine sewing has happened and another 8 blocks for Schoolgirl Sampler

I have put this away for now... hopefully I will be able to prepare a bunch for a sewing day later next week...

... and I started a new hand sewing project to take with me to my Tuesday Sewing group....

The picture next to it is the inspiration.  My blocks are not sewn together (sewing the same colour in pairs for the moment) but it gives an idea of how it will look.

I bought 3" hexagons and am cutting them in half for piecing.... I am not a fan of EPP usually but I fell in love with this pattern and these big pieces will (I hope) keep me entertained and easy to pick up and take with me...

So that has been my week.... busy and fun most of the time.... special thoughts are for my special friend Michelle.....

Righto, Gotto Go.... time to sit with my feet up and a cuppa....

FNWF March

Thanks Cheryll for hosting FNWF .....  I do seem to focus more when I know we are sewing together...

I kindof had a FWD... (Friday Whole Day) and got through some of my School Girl Sampler blocks

The blocks are to finish at 4"....

I am using up Tilda scraps .....

some of them I really like... others not so much

then I put together a group, (some of which had been done before,) with their sashing and cornerstones

.. and added them to the other blocks....

Last night I hand sewed.  I am using a flecked fabric but the tracings are not easy to see at night....  it is going slow but I particularly wanted that fabric for this project.

Today I want to continue with Schoolgirl Sampler .... a couple more blocks are cut and waiting to be sewn....

Thanks again Chez... I am off over HERE to catch up on what the others did...

Have a lovely weekend.....xx

Woohoo.... a finish...

This little quilt is completed now....

24" square and the binding was hand sewn down last night watching the last episode of Vikings....

This embroidery has been my pick up in between projects for a while.... its a sweet stitchery and will eventually be made into a mini quilt for my stand... all it will need is some basic quilting to hold it down and a binding....

Crabapple Hills free February (embroidery month) is finished and I have done all the mini quilts for it too....
The last one was much bigger and lots of writing to do....

and I chose this green fabric for the background which now covers my board

I have used an offcut piece of corflute and covered it with 2 layers of a thin polyester wadding then the fabric....

the back is a bit messy but the plan is that it won't be showing!!

These are just pinned for now.... a group of other enablers had a great chat group as we did this and so we have agreed to make one more which will be a swap and will go in the corner...

I did learn a number of new embroidery stitches doing this one

At the weekend I popped into an op-shop and found a bag of fabrics for $3... now how could I possibly leave them there...

when I got home and opened the packet I saw they are all fabulous quality cottons and larger than fat 1/4's (closer to 1/2m)

... as well as a dozen ready made blocks....

I had some chunky knitting for the trip to town and back and got another 3 dusters done...

My staple yarn for the car is polyester fluff for dusters, scrubby for scrubbies (which I like using in the shower) and cotton for cotton washcloths ....

Just keeps my hands busy and I am using up yarn I already have....

Righto, Gotto Go.... maybe I should do some dusting.... (nah, they are just for show)

Sewing machine is calling.... it is going to be Schoolgirl Sampler day here....

Have a lovely weekend...
