I did have a problem with some of them..... I made a few that were looking over their @#&* tail feathers so a bit of reverse stitching was required.....
(note to me - pay attention to which seam you are sewing)
I wanted a bit of weight so these are filled with little plasticy teady bear filling beads - the pins do go in fine but I'm not too sure if it will be good for them (the pins) long term....
Excellent for holding down pattern pieces.....
I ran out of beads..... so some of them are slumped in a corner looking like they have had the stuffing knocked out of them ...

.... I made up 5 1/2" squares of 'fabric' with selvages and used THIS tutorial ....

Love your chooks, I made some years ago, but they were log cabins, I think I used rice to weigh them down. Its a great use for selvedges though...(rather have log cabins on a quilt) and will make lovely gifts...I assume you dont need 8 new pin cushions!

Just adorable - you will be able to start a farm soon. Have you tried rice as stuffing?? I always put it in my pincushions and its nice & heavy. (I usually zap it in the microwave a bit first in case there are any little creepy crawlies - or you could try a low oven). Love your new header too - bet that came from your Toowommba day???

Those are absolutely gorgeous! The first thing taught myself to sew was one of those chickens. I kept sewing the tail on the inside! lol I always have at least one on the dash board of my car. Seeing yours has inspired me to make some more!

Cute chooks...hope the flat chooks have put on some weight...have you tried crushed walnut shells? they work a treat.
