This week I managed to finish off another Caswell block....
... and hand sewing has meant a few more Sashiko blocks have been done.... up to 138/365 now...
I have cut up lots of 16" x 2 1/2" strips for Scrappy Trip Around the World blocks....
When we immigrated in 2002 I brought a small amount of special pieces which included some furniture and art (about 3.3 cubic metres - not very much but I wanted to hold on to sentimental things). Anyway to protect some of the pieces I wrapped them in soft furnishings. I had only recently had a new bed cover made and it was perfect for protection. It has not been used in all this time but I have kept it as I just love the fabric!!!
We finally bought ourselves a table to sit at in our veranda, the top is tempered glass and I hate the sound of putting a plate or cup on it.... so out came the bed cover, chop chop chop .....
It was loosely quilted and I kept it that way. A wide binding which I removed and added it around the circle and edges so I could loop cord through and tie it under the table.....
I'm happy with how it looks... and the cat is happier with a comfortable place to enjoy the sun in the mornings!
There is still a fair bit of it left and I have cut out a few tray mats to make up and maybe do a tote bag.... not sure what else....
Joy is hosting a Christmas in July themed stitchalong and I joined in.... I always like Joys pictures and they never take too long to stitch....
Any guesses what this will be?????? I have no idea... top of an ice cream cone?
Quilt group had Christmas In July - a very good lunch was had and most tables decorated. There are a few girls at my table who like to go all out.... My participation was taking some Christmas themed Sashiko to sew.... the contrast is better in real life.
Yesterday I downloaded the next installment of Joys stitchery and added it last evening... I am using the remains of a Valdani thread which has variegated red and green.
Righto, Gotto Go.... had lots on this week and I'm looking forward to putting my feet up tonight and work on the next Caswell block ...
Hope you have a lovely weekend xx .

Great re-use of your fabric - it makes an excellent table cover! Well done on the sashiko stitching, and I love your fussy cutting for your Caswell block.
Your Caswell block is gorgeous and the sashiko is coming along nicely - love the Christmas one. Great use of the bed cover, pretty fabric. The 'ice cream' looks even more ice cream like with the candy stick! Intriguing. xx
love your Caswell block, this was another of my very favourite blocks!
lots of lovely sashiko happening and I hate to say what I thought your stitchery was going to be (sorry it was going to be cheeky)
great cover for your outdoor table. so clever of you
How good to finally use the bed topper. It will be perfect for place mats as well. Your Christmas in July sounds like it was fun.
Another lovely Caswell block.
Great recycling making the nice table cloth.
Sweet stitchery and Sashiko stitching.
Love the table cover idea. Great way to re use. Yes, the mystery stitch looks like ice cream to me. Your Caswell block is beautiful.
Oh my! When did you first start the Caswell blocks? This one looks beautiful as they all do. Love how you have repurposed that fabric. A great idea for your outdoor table. Well done! Loving all your sashiko particularly the Christmas ones. Hmmm maybe that stitchery is a Christmas cupcake??? I am still in awe how much you achieve!!
Love your Caswell block. I never thought of using a bed cover for a table but what a great idea this is. I LOVE that you can tied it too so it doesn't flip and fly in the wind. It looks great in the last picture. Congrats on this up-cycle project. Joy's stitch-along could be whipped cream on the roof of a gingerbread house. Hahaha. My imagination is SO wild. Yes, ice cream cone makes more sense. Enjoy! ;^)
That is a smart way to use that bed cover. I have to agree with you about putting things down on the glass surface. I worry about the noise and having it break. Your cover is better than using place mats.
Your Caswell is lovely - a bit brighter than some I see.
Excellent up-cycling - I too dislike glass tables for the same reason. I'm sure the cat appreciates it too.
