Last week of June

We have had our Winter Solstice (no nekkid dancing here Jennifer) and it is almost the end of the month which means half way through the year!  GASP

Last Saturday I went to club and joined in with the Community Quilters.  I dug out lots of smaller strips and unpopular fat quarters etc to chop chop chop.... so quite a mess on my cutting table

I am cutting a bunch of scrappy strips.... 16" x 2 1/2" strips..... (I have quite  bit more to cut)

and they will be made up into a whole lot of Scrappy Trip around the World blocks....

At some time we will hold a day of sewing so others can learn this block and make up some to go together for a quilt.... at the moment I am just making up Step by Step Samples
(see why I need you here Chantal to help organise!!!)

I am very comfortable with random scrappy but there will be a wide range of colours available if people want to do them a bit more coordinated.

This year Embroidery Guild will hold it's exhibition (every two years) and one of their main fundraising is a sales table.  I made up these little needle-cases using sweet little preprints.

I really struggle with getting the applique on straight in spite of lots of pinning..... anyway they are done... a little pocket and page of wool felt in the centre......  I used the needlebook pattern from Hatched and Patched Petite Sewing Kit.

I had these 6 origami butterflies done except for the final stitching down. Tutorial found HERE

I have put little magnets in the pockets to make fridge magnets....

Some more Sashiko blocks have been stitched.......

Lots of bits this week...... it's always nice to have those little projects done....

Righto, Gotto Go... the cold wind has come again this week and the wood fire is calling..... take care...x

I passed on the nekkid dancing too, but perhaps one year....lol.....scrappy trips look good, so does the rest of your stitching.

I read your post and laughed out LOUD (and I'm still laughing). Thank you for the nice compliment on my "organizing skills" but, between you and I, I never had a cutting table so well organized as yours. So, I think you are doing just GREAT on your own my friend. Love your trip around the world block. It will be fun to watch the Community Quilters quilts grow with these blocks. LOVE your little needle-cases. I love the fact that the applique isn't straight. It gives them a whimsical look that I love so much. Oh, those butterflies. I haven't done that in a long time. Yours are tempting me to do some more. I wish I could send some of our heat to you and vice versa. We hit 35 Celsius this Tuesday with Humidex of 40 something. AND it's only June! Canadians don't do so well in hot weather. Enjoy the stitching. ;^)

Love the scrappy blocks Fiona. Absolutely adore those wee needlecases - I think I have some of those preprinted stitchery panels. But its the origami butterflies that have greatly inspired me - thank you for the tutorial link ... I shall be giving those a go next week. xx

oooh, good luck with your trip around the world - is it that everyone will contribute a block or two? and then they get joined??
Its a great scrappy pattern.
Love the butterflies....but the needle cases look...as Chantal said...whimsical...they should sell well.

No nekked dancing here either, it's too bloody cold for that nonsense. LOL Lovely ideas for the sales table.

Great idea to use up all those pieces for strips to use with your community group. They won't go to waste there.
The little needle books are a great idea for the fund raising table and look lovely..
The butterflies with magnets are so cute. Lovely idea.
And you have a lot of lovely sashiko blocks to add to your collection.

The trip around the world block should work well for a community quilt. I do like the sweet needles books. The little butterflies are one of my favourite makes. I pop magnets in the pocket too.
