A Significant Day....

Today is my Mother-In-Laws 90th birthday.....  we were supposed to be on holiday in UK to celebrate with her but of course all these plans have been delayed..

Now I have to admit I hit the jackpot with my in laws.... both lovely people who accepted me straight away and have always, always been so supportive

Here they are on me and Hubz' wedding day... looking very smart

Dad passed away in 1994, a very painful cancer but Mum kept him at home and cared for him there right to the end....

loyal, faithful, stoic

Mum was born and bred in Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe but after both her sons and families had left the country due to the economic changes etc she moved to UK.... a huge move for someone who never wanted to leave her homeland

This is her wedding day.... 1952

This is just before I married in 1979.....

.. and here is Mom and Dad with my 4 children.... 1988

Mom lives independently in units, where she runs the Bingo and also cares for a number of the other 'elderly' residents.  Covid has meant she has to restrict her walks down to the shops, where she has her hair done each week, and visits the greengrocer etc as well a stroll by the sea.  But she keeps up with folk through the phone.

Technology has changed so much but mum has made the effort to use it so that we can keep in touch.  We will be doing a group video later in the day to link up Aus and UK families.

It's a real pity that she can't even have tea and cake with her son and DIL who live nearby today.... but of course we will celebrate together as soon as we can....

Of course I made a quilt.... I will show you in the next post!

Righto, Gotto Go.... wine to be chilled .....

What wonderful photos of you MIL and so hard with birthdays and holidays we couldn't celebrate together. We are able to see the boys again, the kids need a break so we take them out to give them time to relax and we avoid hugging and kissing, as much as I miss their hugs.

Sad for you that your missing out on a lovely chance to see family and friends overseas, but glad that modern technology offers a alternative option.

A lovely post for your MIL Fiona. It sounds like she is very special lady. How heartbreaking you aren't on your trip to visit but we're so luck with modern communications. Hopefully the day comes that you can visit in the near-ish future?
