Gift Happy and Scrap Happy.....

Tracey at Mistea Crafts is a wonderful knitter ... of socks ... and mitts .... and lots of other wonderful things ... as well as doing wonderful crochet.... sortof patchwork but with yarn! On top of that she can sew too!

I was so lucky to be the winner of a pair of "hand made by Tracey" mitts and they arrived this week...

..... aren't they just beautifully done... there is no seam in there for sewing up.... all done in one piece with the prettiest pattern .... and look at the pretty coaster that came with it.....

Well Spring arrived earlier this week then scurried away so it has been cold again the last few days so the mitts were put to use straight away..... and so was the coaster with a mug of coffee ....

I love that I can continue stitching and keep my hands warm... Thank you so much Tracey.... I love them...

I got another 16 scrappy blocks sewn .....

each block is made up of 29 pieces ....

so that means I sewed together 464 pieces....

Now I have 43 completed blocks...

which is 1247 pieces....

? impressed?

..... i am .....

I think I want 64 blocks altogether (undecided about finished size), which would be 1856 pieces .... I want a big scrappy quilt ....

There seems to be differences in the definition of scrappy... mine are any scrap, any colour and from my 'left overs' and pieces passed on to me - small pieces

Other 'scrap quilts' I have seen appear to be bought lengths of fabric, or obviously fairly large coordinated pieces (fat quarter sizes) ....  but considered scrappy because of the style rather than the look....

How do you define scrappy?

Lovely mitts - they will keep your hands warm! Snow fell not far from here a couple of days ago so winter hasn't left yet. I reckon scrappy is a mix of colours and fabrics - planned scrappy can look as good as completely scrappy too. My hand-pieced blocks have 4500 pieces, you know.

Scrappy is just that...made from scraps. And I for one LOVE scrappy quilts because anything goes! :0)

Lovely warm looking mitts there Fiona. When I made my Leanne's House quilt many years ago, it was meant to be scrappy. I bought a lot of fabric to give it that scrappy look! LOL!

Love your new mitts. Rich color too. Yum.

Yes, that's what I call a scrap quilt. Very beautiful. I might have to copy this pattern you know. And I would do it like that too because I have the same definition of scrappy as you.
Hang in there, Spring will come.

Yes I agree, scrappy is from your bits and pieces not whole pieces cut up. Love your mitts, the mornings and nights are still cold so they will come in handy for a while yet. Hugs.....

I'm with you too - scrappy is any scrap, any colour and from wherever you can get it - you can buy more to add to include or just use stash - and limited repeats of the same fabric. (ideally each fabric only once but that is pushing it).

It looks great!

Love your new mittens - they look wonderfully warm and a beautiful colour! And your scrappy quilt with all its hundreds of pieces is looking great!! To me scrappy is all those leftover bits that spill and overflow everywhere!

Wow that is a massive number of pieces, can't say I would be making ONE block with 29 bits, let alone 64 of them, brave woman! ;) I'm on the bandwagon of "scraps" being leftover or spare bits, not chunks bought for the purpose. I suppose I'm a traditionalist; it's a make do with what you have and/or re-use concept. And the joy is how miraculously all those stray bits look stunning all combined at the end :) Just as yours are :)

Scrappy is just what you are doing - bits of left over material sewn together. I am sure it will be lovely and cozy when its finished.

What beautiful mitts, a gorgeous colour. My scrappy quilts are definitely scraps :)

What a lovely prize. The mitts are beautiful. Your scrappy quilt will be big. Scraps are small bits to me.....but I guess we all have some of those unused bigger pieces.

Love your warm mitts, have to start thinking about things like that here soon! Wow what a lot of pieces. I think scrappy would mean from the scrap box, exactly that, making use of well scraps lol xcx

What gorgeous mitts Fiona. Loving your scrappy quilt. I'm very impressed with how much you achieved. I always think of scrap quilts as using bits from your stash and leftover fabric from other projects

Those mitts at just perfect Fiona...what a great prize! Scrappy to me is made up of scraps, any size!

It appears "scrappy" is in the air. Love your quilt...with the pattern forming in the background.
Scrappy to me means using your scraps...but also it can be an anywhere placement ... Either way I love playing with "scrappy quilts"... Xox

I have a foot in both camps, I love coordinated scrappy (eg all reds which requires some purchased fabric as well as stash) but I also like patterns where value defines the pattern which is perfect for scraps straight out of the bag.

I love those mitts! Just what I need for the winter, I shall have to get my needles out. Your scrap quilt is super and just what a scrap quilt should be to my mind - using up bits and pieces. xx

You are definitely right! A scrap quilt is made from - well, scraps! A scrappy quilt usually has been pieced from a stash. I'm a 'scrap' quilter and have pondered this difference plenty!

Your mitts are lovely and they look so cosy!!
Those blocks are wonderful. I am stunned at all the pieces you are putting together!

How fun is that to keep a count of how many little pieces are in the blocks?? Clever!
I'm with you on the 'scrappy' definition - any piece, any colour, any print - if it's small, it qualifies.
I have a box of pieces that are layer cake, fat eighth & slightly bigger sort of sizes... I guess one day I will need to work out what to do with them...
