Thank you to Cheryll for hosting FNWF ….. and thank you to The Quilters Angel for hosting Friday night stitching... also with friends....
I am lucky to get double date on the first Friday of the month....
I worked on Block 7 of Flowerville... I have been stitching away on this in the evening all this week and last night did the chain stitch bits....
This week I decided I needed to do something about my overflowing scrap baskets.....
I loved Jennifer's tumbler quilt and so I ordered a template to do one also..... you can see hers HERE
I just adore her little ones but I really need to scrap bust so going bigger... and will sew them by machine. My template will sort for other sizes so I can see a smaller size one happening in the future
I am slowly sorting out scraps big enough for 6" pieces. I was amazed that the base of the tumbler is also 6"... it doesn't look it
When I need a stretch from quilting I get up and iron a few scraps and cut them up.... the pile is growing.... the scrap bins still seem to be very full... haha
I did finish off the wheat bag for my daughter this week... it just needed stuffing and sealing off. Because it is long and thin I put in some wheat then sewed a seam … and again so there are 5 pockets and this will stop them all falling and gathering in one place. The cover can be taken off for a wash too.....
Righto, Gotto Go..... I think I will go and cut up some green tumblers from scraps today....
Hope you have a lovely weekend.....
You were wonderful company at FNwF... & you managed to make progress too.
ReplyDeleteYou have some lovely looking scraps there to work with.
ReplyDeleteLove tumbler blocks, great way to use up your scraps. Hugs, xx

ReplyDeletethanks for the great company last night!!! Lovin the wheat pack and such a good idea to stop the wheat moving...is on my to do list lol
ReplyDeleteYour stitching is gorgeous as always...its such a cute stitchery x
Hi Fiona beautiful work my friend ,looking forward to your progress on your new stash buster. Lol your daughter will be pleased that her wheat bag is finished now.hope you have a wonderful weekend Fiona xx
ReplyDeleteYour stitchery is looking lovely. Happy tumbler stitching x
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a great way to use up lots of scraps Fiona. A nice stitchy evening with friends. xx
ReplyDeleteLove a tumbler quilt. Why do we never seem to get to the bottom of our scraps? Flowerville is looking good. Nothing better than a wheatbag made to measure x
ReplyDeleteI think scraps multiply overnight . . .
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty stitching!!! Golly you do have a lot of scraps, just love your baskets to keep them in. Can't wait to see your tumbler quilt. The wheat bag is brilliant - I remember making one that went over the shoulders, covered the upper half of the back, it was full of channels and they were challenging to say the least! But when you do it like that it lays so much nicer and doesn't fall off. Good job!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute little house. I reminds me of a gypsy wagon. Love it. I love the picture of your baskets. I need to make more of those. My scraps aren't contained very well. They are all over the place. Great idea to sew the wheatbag into section. Should we call that a wheat scarf? ;^)
ReplyDeleteOh that’s funny Fiona! I’m about to start cutting tumblers out of scraps too! Looking forward to seeing what you do with yours! xx
ReplyDeleteGreat minds must think alike! I just cut and started stitching my first tumbler quilt today. I won the template last year sometime and just now am using it. Mine is sized for 5" charm squares and they cut up so fast. Like you, I thinking about using up tons of scraps this way. Looking forward to seeing how yours comes along :)
ReplyDeleteLovely to have a double date for Friday..
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the progress on the Tumbler quilt...
Great to have DD wheat bag finished..
Tumblers make for great single patch scrap quilts, this will look fantastic. I have a collection of wheat bags, that is a great way to make them with a cover, as they do get dirty! I have some purchased as well with lupins inside, which are not as heavy as wheat nor do they have an odour....but tricky to obtain lupins, we dont grow them on the farm!
ReplyDeleteHave fun with your new tumbler project. It will be a great one to work on in between other projects.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your tumbler quilt, I do have that die cutter and would be fun to make one.
ReplyDeleteDebbie
The tumbler quilt is a great idea. Hope it makes a big dent into those scrap bins.
ReplyDeleteSo wise to use large pieces for stash busting - at the moment my projects use tiny scraps so the scrap volume doesn't decrease much. It's lovely looking at all your projects...and also far too inspiring for my own good...!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Flowerville blocks are looking lovely.
ReplyDeleteAnd good luck with your tumbler quilt. Hope you tame some of the scrap baskets.
