We have a Hoya plant...
Here it is outside our bedroom
Looking closer there are lots of these tendrils growing madly ….. it's gone crazy
I just love these waxy flowers and leaves.... and discovered that at night there is the most gorgeous scent from them … now I love them even more....
Anyway we decided it needed a new home so that it could grow it's tendrils madly so we moved it to our new shade house area...
Hubz put up lots of wires for all those tendrils to grow on....
It seems very happy in its new place and I see lots more buds happening... we will be having sweet smells for quite some time.
I am trying to strike some of the tendrils... and will look out for another colour - I fancy the cream one.
I went shopping yesterday.... I found this lovely teal with a white spot to border my new quilt tops... and some of that lime green (actually its more baby poo green) for the binding.... I will use those on both quilts.
I also got a bit more grey to finish the borders on the grey one
.. and got the backing too... I just love that black and grey but there wasn't enough for two quilts so I got the blue for one...
My fun citrus colour strips have been sewn together, pressed, and cut again to make 6" blocks. This is how I will put it together... then I will need to go shopping again to get something for a border for that one too!
The only thing with stash busting...is there is still a need to shop to finish off things...
I dug in the cupboard and this is the next bundle of stash to be used.... one of the older French General jelly rolls
Bush Christmas is a fun market held at this time each year. The exhibitors are artisans from 'the bush' and I am always amazed at what they put together.
I went for the food! There is the most amazing Honey Mustard salad dressing (I always buy this when I go), some marmalade, mustard, Moroccan seasoning and a bit of pecan brittle which is Hubz's favourite treat. They are all just delicious and great to support the ladies from the bush who have had such a rough year....
Righto, Gotto Go.... It is FNSI and I will be double dating with the Friday sewing girls. Better go and get something together to take!
Hi Fiona oh I love your Hoya plant ,love it when plants have a lovely perfume.
ReplyDeleteLove the polka dot fabric you got for the border ,it goes perfectly, this is such a beautiful quilt well done my friend.
Oh can't wait to see what you make with the French general, and enjoy your lovely goodies from the ladies in the bush.
Lovely quilt and the colours are great - even if they are poo green lol. The plant is amazing, not seen one of those before. Enjoy your double date and will see you later for stitching. :)
ReplyDeleteHoyas are very interesting, my posh Melbourne grandmother had one.....to a child those waxy flowers were intriguing. I like your colours, even poo green! I have had that salad dressing too, it's very yummy.
ReplyDeleteSuch an interesting plant! It certainly does look happy in its new home. You found some pretty fabrics to supplement your scrap building efforts. I know what you mean! I’m bringing a scrap quilt to Texas for Crafty Daughter's guest room sans binding because I just didn’t have anything appropriate in my stash.
ReplyDeleteHi Fiona lovely Hoya plant ,my brother has one and they do have a lovely perfume. I to have been working with what I have on hand and left over from other projects. It seams to me that those scraps seam to multiply while we go through them. Happy stitching.Merry Christmas ....in stitches Annette
ReplyDeleteWow! That's a lovely plant. I've never seen a flower with square petals. It is so cool. It reminds me of hexagon flowers we quilters do. Very interesting. Thanks for sharing that. You got the perfect fabric for your border and binding. Enjoy! ;^)
ReplyDeleteThe Hoya must love the new spot As it's growing wonderfully there. Love the flowers on the Hoya. Beautiful border fabric, fits in perfectly. The goodies form the market look yummy. Hugs, xx
ReplyDeletegreat fabric choices - I really enjoyed last years Bush market - just too hard this year - but maybe next time.
ReplyDeleteHappy stash busting!...I have the same problem - never enough for backings and backgrounds . . .
I always enjoy seeing all your exotic plants, and I wish I could smell the Hoya. I love perfumey flowers, especially the ones that release their scent at night :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a very healthy hoya you have there. Looks like it will do well in the shade area. Good luck with the cuttings.
ReplyDeleteAnything left in the shop after your visit? So good to get organised with all the finishing bits and know you can work away on your quilts without disruption.
Love the idea of your Christmas bush market!!!
Some lovely things happening at your place. Enjoy your market goodies.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's why our scrap piles never get any smaller! Love the new fabrics for the quilts, they're perfect and lovely to see your shady walk getting planted up
ReplyDeleteLovely goodies from the market. Great fabric you have purchased too. Your hoya is going gangbusters, great to see all the flowers coming.
ReplyDeleteYour beautiful Hoya does look very happy in it's new home. Yes, I agree about the stashbusting! Great idea but there are always more leftovers too. xx
ReplyDeleteLovely plant, it looks really happy in its new home and by the looks of it will soon be covering up the trellis and with a lovely scent to boot. Enjoy your market goodies xcx
ReplyDeleteOh, I'd forgotten about Hoyas!! Nany used to grow them and I remember loving those pretty little flowers...cant remember the scent though. I'll have to see if they grow up here where we are. I think having to buy more fabrics to finsh a stash busting quilt off is the best of both worlds.... use up the stash but a legitimate reason for still buying - hehehe!
