…. though at the moment I would prefer a rain storm...
Some time ago Sue showed her fat quarter friendly quilt on her blog and I just loved it so I have copied the idea... (HERE is Sue's that inspired me)
I had 12 coordinated fat quarters so I chopped them up. 3 sets of both 6 1/2" square and 6 1/2 x 12 1/2" rectangles from each fat quarter. I cut the sashing at 2 1/2".
Great for nice bold prints.
In this one I used a light grey - but ran out so I need to get a little more to finish off the border.
This one is done in white... it does make it nice just having that border... then I think I want another wide border - but that will depend on me finding just the right fabric for it....
here you can see the difference in colours of the sashing....
Then I found another bundle of 1/4m's so I cut up lots of strips.... the plain colours in these have bling and are quite different. I am planning a rail fence style quilt with these.
I am trying to use up some of the fabrics I collected up years ago and make them up into quick and easy quilts....
I have a pile of EPP elongated hexagons that I am basting for Michelle's Wings and Pretty things quilt …. yes, I use the old way of stitching them - I did do one of these with glue but it took me just as long and I got sticky all over me and they are a pain to get out again - besides I am not in a hurry. Saying that I have used glue sometimes when it suits me.... like with curves on rounded Dresden plate.. do you glue or stitch?
Sunday was a road trip day … out for a country drive and a light lunch at a country café.... I had a bit of knitting to do and got yet another washcloth finished...
Wishing you a lovely week.... this time of year can be so crazy busy
good morning my lovely friend, you sure have been busy. I love your quilt, the fabrics are fantastic and look so good against the white, well done. I always enjoy seeing what you have been up to,lovely work Fiona, hope you have a lovely week xx
ReplyDeleteLove the top. Nice & bright looking. The strips are lovely & bright too, going to be a lovely quilt. Hugs, xx
ReplyDeleteThat's a great pattern for big, bold prints! Nice large pieces must go together pretty fast, too. Love that pile of bright, citrus colors! That will be rail fence that glows in the dark :)
ReplyDeleteThe white border really sets it off beautifully, brings it all together nicely.

Two wonderful quilts Fiona, the colours are wonderful. It is a great pattern. That next lots of fabric looks great too. I am with you and stitching hexies, I have done some with glue and end up with sticky fingers! Nice coloured wash cloth. You have been a busy bee.
ReplyDeleteYour new quilt project looks so fresh....lovely! You have indeed been sewing up a storm. Hope the hexies are not too tiresome lol!
ReplyDeleteGreat work on your quilt and a lovely way to use a bundle of fat quarters. It has real Summer feel to it and looks gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with everything else that is on the go!
Lovely fun quilts Fiona - the white border looks great. I am definitely a stitch baster - can't stand the idea of glue near my fabrics. Plus, I have had trouble removing the papers from some swap hexies which were glued which has really annoyed me lol. xx
ReplyDeleteYou have been very productive......well done! I have done some hand stitching, but that's all.
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely refreshing colours in the easy quilt...love it.
ReplyDeleteThe fence and rail on will be gorgeous too.
I do glue but use Applique Papers from Hugs and Kisses which you leave inside the EPPing......
Another nice dish cloth completed..
Lovely top you've made. It's nice to use up some of the stash and turn it into a gorgeous quilt. Lovely. Since I have never used glue, I'll say stitch. It's easier to work on EPPs in the car or at Doctor's waiting room when they are stitched. Have a great day! ;^)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link, I need to do some quick kids quilts and this pattern will be perfect.
ReplyDeleteLove those quilts, simply stunning!
ReplyDeleteDelightful little quilt! Yay for you to be trying to use up some of your older stash. Hope you’re having a great week!
ReplyDeletedefinitely crazy busy here....but getting there - love the citrusy colours and the blue green grey - definitely the border...wait to see what you add.
