Thank you Cheryll for hosting WOOFA and your encouragement in progressing with projects...
I started a big sorting out of Quilt Tops I have made over the years and put them into the Quilting Queue....
It got a bit overwhelming to say the least and it may seem silly to some but I just love sewing them and trying different patterns and techniques as well as use up scraps.... and then they start to gather up
So this month for WOOFA my progress has been a cull and they are being sent off to someone else to finish for Charity... most of them I think will be Oncology Quilts but I have left that up to Sue who has taken on my overwhelming burden.
Two large satchels on their way.....
I do still have a totally ridiculous number to finish off... and of course I still make more.
This is a little PICU quilt..... using left overs from another quilt which I managed to quilt this week.....
I love this orange peel with a twist shape following the squares which makes a sort of flower at the corners....
I am using up some pretty fabrics for the backs so hopefully it will be an interesting back as well as front....
Craft Alive was on here in Toowoomba this weekend.... I had a play there on Friday and found some bargain metreage which can be used for backings if I sew a seam....
the grey's at the top will be useful for backgrounds or sashings... (they are metre lengths)
I also got some light backgrounds for a new quilt I will be sewing along with Michelle called Where We Love is Home by Annie Downs. Anybody else going to make that one?????
I had to hold myself back from the other French General and Civil War Reproduction fabrics I lusted after......
It was fun to have a real live show again.... not huge numbers but keen shoppers and fun to catch up with a few friends there too....
Righto, Gotto Go..... there are quilts to be made!
Us quilters have a weakness to start something new. Very generous of you to donate all those previous tops.
ReplyDeleteFiona, I was surprised that the craft show wasn't crowded as the line-up outside was quite long. I am not a quilter as I don't want to get addicted to another craft but I saw some lovely fabrics there that a quilter would love. If you are interested you would be most welcome at our Simple Living Toowoomna workshops once a month.
ReplyDeleteI'm pleased to be able to encourage you to work on a project...& if that means moving flimsy's along to other quilters...that's great too.
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping you achieve your set goals...xox
Smart idea to sent he tops off as a donation. It means they get used and will not be wasted. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteAnd you got to go to a craft show! can't wait for that to happen here!
It seams like I too have a problem with finishing quilts. I have a collection of tops and well, you know. So generous of you to give away two big bags of tops. On with the new! YAY! Lol. I love the Orange Peel with a twist. I'll have to remember that one. I see the flower it makes. Lovely. You did a good job with the sunrise mini quilt. Lucky girl to catch a craft show. I love the fabrics you got. Enjoy the purchases. ;^)
ReplyDeleteVery good of you to donate the quilt tops to Sue and now you can make more new ones..
ReplyDeleteThe Orange Peel is a lovely pattern for the PICU quilt..
Beautiful BOM block and a great backing..
You did have fun at Craft Alive and picked up some nice fabrics..
Giving the unquilted tops to charity is lovely, and you won't feel guilty seeing them in the queue. It would have been nice to attend a craft show again. Great purchases. I have Anni's pattern as well. It is a rather appropriate one at the moment.
ReplyDeleteSue is a whizz at finishing off those quilt tops for the Oncology Department Fiona - what a great idea to give them to her. I am rather in love with your new fabrics for the Anni Downs quilt - just beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteThose new fabrics are very pretty! Good idea to move the finished tops along.....now you can have the fun of making more tops. Craft Alive is due here in July, we're looking forward to it but not counting chickens just yet.
ReplyDeleteVery nice to be able to attend a quilt show and your fabrics are lovely. Very happy to finish off the quilt tops for you. Love the little quilt the quilting great too. Great to get those fabrics for backings.
ReplyDeleteGiving those quilts to charity is a great idea. I haven't seen that pattern by Anni yet, so I shall go and have a google.
ReplyDeleteMoving tops on to someone else to finish and donate doesn't sound like cheating to me!
ReplyDeleteThe quilting on your pink quilt is charming.
How generous to donate the quilts for a good cause. Wonderful new fabrics.
ReplyDeleteIt's not cheating at all to donate some of your tops for someone else to finish! Some people are piecers, some are long armers, some love to just put on bindings. Many hands make light work for good causes, and your tops are always so lovely. It's wonderful that they will be finished and given to people who need a quilty hug :)
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilts done and in progress. And I
love all your new fabrics. Have a great day!
starting projects is so much fun and good for you for all your charity quilts! I always love your FMQ
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy seeing what new quilts you are making and I understand about making and not finishing. I need to do the same thing and I like the idea of donating them to charity, to finish.
ReplyDeleteDebbie
It's good to see the craft shows happening - the Embroidery one is on in April, so will be good to get a "retail therapy" fix.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Sue will be delighted with your quilt tops...must have been a hard choice in what to keep and what to pass on.
mmm new Anni project??
I must keep my eyes shut...already overwhelmed!
Lovely idea to donate your tops to charity, very satisfying and a win win. Love the colours of your quilt and your block, the backing is very striking too, totally reversable. Great when you can pick up a bargain and enjoy the show at the same time. xcx
ReplyDeleteA good idea to go through your tops like that. I'm sure you still have plenty to quilt though and many more ideas in your head!! Your little PICU quilt is sweet, and you're right, a nice quilting design. Love your National Museum block too. I am not starting anything new (that's not on my list with patterns or fabric bought already!!) so please don't tempt me with other ideas hehehehehe
