I love the term 'flimsy' for a quilt top... it gives me the feeling that there is a finish... even if it is not a complete finish....
In this post HERE... I showed you the initial finished blocks....
I laid out the 'secondary' star and sashing blocks and checked through my handy door peeper so make sure they were okay.... luckily I did as the bottom ones were upside down!
I love the way it looks like there is a quilt at the end of the tunnel - means there is hope for finish that way!
... and so we go... one border...
two borders...
... three borders...
... and we have a flimsy!...
(finished size 51" x 63")
.. the colours and fabric show a bit clearer here...
... and I even got the binding made and ready....
This pattern is called Stars That Sparkle and I bought the full kit for a bargain quite a while ago ... I am guessing it was prepared for a shop workshop as the instructions are incomplete and the diagrams rough... A photograph was provided but there is no designer name or shop name with it.
Making the initial 3 1/2" blocks took the longest... but I was able to chain sew them.... the little bits that get trimmed off were also chain sewed.....
they will be trimmed blocks of 1 1/4" ... I know... I know but how can I possibly throw fabric out?
Righto, Gotto Go - there are visions of pinwheels, HST's, flying geese . HAHA HAHA
(those are not laughter haha's... but more like "HAHA... I have an idea... HAHA" sounds)
Meanwhile in this heat I have been hand sewing in doors.... our quilt club has a banner challenge with owls and I thought I would start with one of Michelle's little stitcheries.....
I have changed my mind with what I am going to do overall... but the stitchery is cute and I will find a use for it...
Our heatwave is not funny..... snow storms elsewhere and floods in other places
Keep cool, keep warm, keep dry and keep safe
oooh, lovely :)
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous! I love those colors! :0)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt top. The fabrics are just right for that design. I am entering my HST panes and I might have a go at that block just for fun. Can't commit to any quilts just yet. Love the owl. I have started Up the Garden Path.
ReplyDeleteI hate that word guesser. I meant HST phase.

Glad you can still stitch regardless of the heat. I know it sounds crazy but I put the heater on for a short time this morning - it was 13C. Getting sunny now.

ReplyDeleteLove your quilt top, Fiona, and your little owl is sweet. Not too cold here today, in contrast to yesterday, but grey and windy and a bit wet - a good stitching day. Keep cool if you can.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I would make the little pinwheel blocks too. I have all kinds of them made and one day I will put them all together. On the news the other day they said Australia is having the hottest summer ever. Hubby and I are coming there at the end of February and I'm hoping it won't be too hot then. Hubby hates heat.
