Playing.....

... with my lovely upcycled and redecorated cutlery box....

Marilyn used one some time ago... which I just loved.....

... first I cut up some old music sheets ....
(I'm not musical but I found some old books in a charity shop)

... that modge podge stuff is lovely... glue and varnish at the same time....

... cut some wedges in the sides and did some clever engineering tricks....

... and here we have it all together....

... a new home for my threads ....

... as you can see plenty of room!!! haha ... perhaps I over exagerated how many I have! ....

you can see Marilyn's HERE... the same but different....  thanks for the idea and the encouragement

Another person who is encouraging me - this time to use up some of my scraps is Anorina in her 52 week scrap challenge

I had a couple of blocks in my UFO box from a QuiltALong I started and never kept up

... they were scrappy so perfect to use for these....

I found some extra yellow scraps for the sides ... a bit of playful quilting ...

... and a couple of mug rugz....

HERE is the link to Anorina's sunny mug rug

Hubz has discovered a hobby too... home brew beer....

I am chief taster... I must say I am sleeping extraordinarily well these days!!!!

Less money on beer means more money for fabric.....

Righto, Gotto Go... I wonder if it is too early to check on the latest brew?

  6. Lovely box Fiona....Can you believe my Mum gave me one yesterday with the cutlery in it....a wedding gift for her back in 1951.....Now I'm torn as to what to do but knowing me I probably won't paint it as I like to keep things original if I can....What a super idea it is though.....but you never know, it could become a thread box one day!

  10. Maybe you need to funnel some of your 'drink money' into filling that box, I'm sure there are colours you don't have that you need!
Great box and very sweet little rugs for catching the drips.
    Enjoy the brew.

Hmm has Hugz made home made alcoholic ginger beer...
    That's good sleeping drop...

  18. Alcoholic ginger ale is really something, had it on a trip to Victoria some years ago....it was made by a little brewery in a pub miles from anywhere. And it was so good......definitely, the more you save on beer the more you can spend on threads!

  19. Your thread box has worked out very well - they sure hold a lot of threads dont they. I had 3 almost full plastic boxes to put in and still had room left over in mine. (I inherited lots of threads from my Mum and MIL). The mug rugs are so cute. Home brew - is that the answer to insomnia? Who would have guessed? ;o)
    Hugs xx

  21. Its so good DH is saving you money so you can make more quilts! And even better that his hobby has to live in the shed...more room in the house for quilts!

  26. Fab thread box! It'll be full before you know it. I started off with one of those plastic boxes with the compartments, I now have 5 full ones and a bag of crewel threads!

the mug rugs are brilliant - they're from Hello Sun, aren't they?

  28. Your music/thread box is stunning, what a clever idea! How cute is your little snowman mugrug, love how well the wool works with the cotton fabrics too... enjoy the beer, there's something pretty nice about a good homebrewed beer(and of course the extra fabric money is a handy benefit...lol)
Hope you're having a lovely weekend, Nicky x
