Friday Night With Friends......

My FNWF was a bit higgledy piggledy... but a fair bit has been accomplished.... it kindof went all day Friday and a bit in the evening as we had widget to stay and then a bit more today...

Firstly I finished off this quilt top (not made by me - I just offered to quilt and finish off)

..... just needed the thread ends tidying up....

I had spent Thursday playing at a friends house who has her machine set up for quilting....

The machine sits on a couple of tables set on wheels so it can move backwards and forwards and you follow the quilting pattern using a stylus....

just going one direction with a line of butterflies...

this quilt top was finished off with a flannel backing... and no wadding....  the border is also the binding....

and this is the tutorial I used for the self binding border .....  perfect for this... more of a throw than a quilt... and I will use that idea again.....

the backing was a pretty flannel sheet....

that done... we had to think about food...

Widget likes to help in the kitchen (can you see he is wearing his new apron) ...... we had some discussion about what could be done...

Widget:   "Nana... can I chop the pumpkin"
Me:  "No love, I am worried about you chopping your little fingers"
Widget:  "Oh, ok Nana, you hold it and I'll chop"

We compromised by him peeling a carrot....

I did do a bit of time on the machine.... I started my charm pack table runner swap item... this is a sneaky peak for you Sharon..... at least now you know what to expect!!!

Once widget was snuggled up in bed I took out some hand sewing....

Another swap item... it's a secret who it's going to....

.. and then I did a bit more of this little 'D' from Michelle's alphabet stitcheries....  they really are lovely

Righto, Gotto Go....I'm off over HERE to visit others who sewed with us last night!!! Thanks Cheryll for hosting us.... I think I joined in a bit late... all the cake was finished.... hmmmmm

  6. It must be such fun to use a quilting machine like that. My last quilt I also brought the backing over to form the binding - it works well that way. Lovely to see Widget wearing his apron and helping with the carrot. I am wary of cutting pumpkin so not keen on having help from little hands either.

  12. I think you did well. I want to try a quilting machine. Finding it too hard going pushing through a quilt in a domestic machine. I'm away on holidays, so last night was spent around a camp fire. I did some work on a knitted scarf today. Enjoyed seeing your progress.

  13. I'd say you got a lot done! Love the Widget story. Pumpkins are definitely too hard for little fingers to be chopping.

  42. What a big day Fiona. That would be fun quilting on the frame though I think I would need lots of practice to use the stylus. Widget is a character, smart Nana taking control of the pumpkin single handed. xx
