Third Week of February

That week passed by in a hurry!

The Edinburgh Tattoo was great fun - it rained most of the time and we made use of silly thin poncho's (but they work!) - but not at all cold.  The performers didn't miss a beat due to the rain and were so professional and fun.  I'm so glad we went.  I failed to take pictures, too entranced!

Then time with cousin and wife just went far too quickly, so much to catch up and we spend a day at a lovely forest area, long walk and tasty lunch.

I joined up with friends for sewing on Tuesday after they left and did the binding on this quilt (top made in 2021 and quilted last year).  It was made from a Jelly Roll I got many years ago with some extra metreage for borders.....

I've called it Rock around the Block!

I used this fun feather fabric for the backing

All over quilting, with leaves, twirls and butterflies.....

I have finished the quilting for Gardeners Journal and it has gone into the Binding Queue.  I still mostly like to hand sew the final binding so they tend to sit there a while.  It's a good activity to take to sewing with friends.

Righto, Gotto Go, I'm off to Embroidery Guild today for another Hardanger lesson.  After my coffee that is!

Have a lovely rest of the week and weekend..... xx

  1. Oh my....the rain would have made you feel that you were in Bonnie Scotland, even if it wasn't as cold! Rock Around the Block is a good name for your quilt, it looks like a fun easy make.

  2. Shame about the weather for the Tattoo. We have friends who also donned their ponchos for the performance. Nice finish with Rock around the Block.

  6. Well that's a great finish and must feel good to have it done. Hopefully Gardeners Journal is on top of the binding pile as it would be lovely to see it finished. Glad your weekend went off well. xx

  7. It sounds like the rain didn't dampen your spirits tooooo much. Some friends here travelled down to the Tattoo last night so I'll be interested to hear about it today. Good on you getting to the binding on your quilt - lovely colours in the jelly roll. (I'm sure I made the same (or similar) pattern quite some years ago - one of my first quilts.)

Good catch with your cousin even though it was short.

  10. I’m glad you enjoyed the Tattoo, despite the rain. Rock Around the Block looks so good. Definitely worth putting those final stitches in. I hope Gardners Journal doesn’t have to wait for long.

  11. Edinburgh sounds so good to me... I was there last summer and was absolutely blown away. Edinburgh is simply incredible... I have to go back!
We have the marching and drill contingent here, which puts on wonderful shows and has been participating in world championships since 2005.
I think you had a lot of fun.
Your "Rock Around the Block" is wonderful, Fiona.
    Hugs, Viola

  14. I am pleased you enjoyed the Tattoo regardless of the rain. We can't plan for these things. I do feel for the performers in these situations.
Your jelly roll quilt looks lovely finished. Great backing fabric too.
    Good luck with the bindings.
