End of December 2024

I feel I have only just got used to it being 2024 - and here we are going into the next year!!!

I do hope you all had a wonderful Christmastime ....

My daughters partner has 3 children and they're family never did stockings (Santa left a parcel under the tree) ..... well - she wanted to change that so I had a day of sewing rectifying the situation. (lucky I had some Christmas fabric on hand!)  (Apparently a great hit - they loved waking up to a stocking stuffed with all sorts of goodies)  So a new tradition for them now.

Hubz and I had a walk around a nearby park..... I love looking at our Australian plants...

Billy Buttons

Banksia

Some hot days and a week of horrible headache for me has meant I have stayed quietly indoors in the air con.

I am doing a free  Blackwork SAL by The Steady Thread with some of the other girls at Embroidery Guild so I started on my outline.  Each week we will get a little botanical picture to put inside.  There is a number of different borders available.  There is a lot more to do (52 leaf circles)  I am using one strand of Cottage Garden thread throughout.

The Field Journal hexagons have made an appearance too - joining these together whilst I watch the cricket....

And of course planning a few projects for next year!!!!

Righto, Gotto Go ....... it's going to be another warm one for us so more gentle hand sewing for me.....

Happy New Year ....... I'm looking forward to another year reading and sharing about the projects we are making....

(I'm excited Hot Cross buns are back in the shops!!!!!)

Great job on the Christmas stockings. As I was reading and slowly scrolling the page down, I saw this pink thing with marshmallow stuff on a stick. It took me a few seconds to realize it's a plant!! Oh! WOW! what an interesting one this is. I am tempted to sew along with the Blackwork party. I looked at her website and I too would choose the leaf one. But do I really have time to do this? Too many fun projects out there, you know. Enjoy the Hot Cross Buns! ;^)

Goodness Me Fiona .. hot cross buns ... easter eggs will be next!!!! Your stockings turned out so lovely - its times like these you wish they had short names 😉 - I always do anyway ... I had to do a stocking for a Clementine once, took forever. Its warm here too so I am indoors by the fan & I shall have to water thoroughly tonight. Happy handwork Fiona xx

Love your first stitchery, that is such a sweet piece. The stockings for the kids are wonderful and a nice surprise for them. The gardens in your area are beautiful. We had snow, now rain, winter will be back next week.

Beautiful flowers. Your new blackwork project sounds like it's going to be lovely. I only eat hot cross buns on Good Friday - well they are only tea cakes with a cross (sorry to be the Grinch) but I am looking forward to the peanut butter eggs! xx

It sounds like you had an enjoyable Christmas and the stockings hit the mark. Sitting in front of the cricket and stitching is the perfect occupation on a hot summer’s day. We don’t buy hot cross buns yet, but as soon as mince pies hit the shelves, way before Christmas, they are in our shopping basket every week. Mick loves them.

We have the most beautiful sun with a bright blue sky just below freezing... so there is frost in nature, which looks beautiful... hat, scarf, gloves, jacket, warm pants... it's wonderful outside.
I wish you a happy new year.
May many of your projects turn out fantastically... I'm really looking forward to seeing everything.
Happy blogging year 2025 to all of us.
Hug from Viola to you Fiona.

The stockings look wonderful Fiona. That first flower is stunning, have not seen one of those before. Enjoy your indoor cool sewing, no need to be out in the heat.
