My two OPAM finishes last month were quilts....
Dutch Treat (reverse applique)
Mama Tembu (international sisters block)
The tops had been made some time ago so have been in the finishing queue - therefore also fit into WOOFA projects (hosted by Cheryll) for January.
Thank you Cheryll for having us virtually for FNWF .....
I did some quilting on this Safari quilt I made some time ago.... It is a lap size and made up to look like snapshots. Big seed pod type shapes in the quilting.
Over the weekend I will make the binding and attach back and front by machine - I usually hand sew down but not this time...
I have a couple of hand sewing things I am working on.... this is the first of the little neighbourhood houses for February done.
Keeping going with this little piece - Just filling in this fabric with some lazy daisy flowers and french knots... then I will make it into a little snap bag.
Once the binding is done for the Safari Snapshots I will be starting this one...... my Elephant ... so far I have prepared some of the papers for foundation piecing..... there will be quite a lot of work to do and not much to see for a while as there are almost 100 blocks to make before they get put together to make it up.... the pattern has been so well done and is easy to follow with what colour goes where. The other bonus is using these solids there is not a problem with wrong side and right side... ( I often get that mixed up with the sewing in reverse of foundation piecing)
On Thursday I made up these masks for a friend. I like the 3D mask from See Kate Sew and have added little strips inside for the nose. So far the only ones I have had success with not fogging up glasses.
Righto, Gotto Go, after my coffee I will get sewing that binding...
Very nice to see your quilts finished, they are all beautiful. Lovely bird stitchery and your lazy daisy stitching looks great. Looking forward to seeing the elephant progress, I have seen some amazing versions. The masks look great. Enjoy your binding sewing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilts. Love the little birdhouse, so cute. Look forward to seeing your elephant quilt. Have fun binding, hugs, xx
ReplyDeleteYou are always very busy on some wonderful projects Fiona. Love having you company at FNwF as usual... EnJoY your weekend...xox
ReplyDeleteBeautiful finishes! :0)
ReplyDeleteGosh what a wonderful post with gorgeous finishes..... well done.
ReplyDeleteYour quilts look fabulous Fiona. I love your Dutch Treat one.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on getting another UFO done. You're on a roll. Your little daisy and French knots project is intriguing me. Can't wait to see more of it. The elephant quilt is gorgeous. Wow! 100 blocks in foundation piecing method! That's a lot of work. But you can do it. One block at a time wins the race. Love your floss fabric. Too cute! I have to make some more masks too. Ours are starting to show fatigue. Have a great one. ;^)
ReplyDeleteYour quilts are just beautiful Fiona. I also love the hand stitching projects you are working on. Gosh that elephant looks amazing! All those pieces would surely send me bonkers though 😉 But I look forward to seeing you bring it to life. Happy Weekend Fiona.
ReplyDeleteTwo gorgeous finishes and the quilting on Safari Snaps looks great.
ReplyDeleteI sew most of my binding by machine, quicker and stronger for quilts that will be washed a lot.
Sweet birdhouse block.
WOW! that Elephant is going to look amazing..
I'm sure you enjoyed your coffee...
You constantly amaze me how much you get done. The reverse applique quilt is beautiful. I have only tried that technique once and I think the project is a UFO lol. All the quilts are lovely. Looking forward to seeing your elephant. Love your stitchery. Is it an online project?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt finishes. They're super rainbowy and happy - just like those masks.
ReplyDeleteThat elephant quilt looks absolutely amazing!
Fabulous finishes......well done! Good luck on the elephant, it's a lot of work.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great job, Fiona! Love both finishes and the Safari quilt will be right up there too! Guess you had elephants on your mind while out on safari and that looks like a fun quilt. I've admired the pattern but didn't realize it was made up in so many paper-pieced blocks. Whew! That will take some time and I look forward to seeing your progress!
ReplyDeleteTwo gorgeous finishes Fiona and an almost finish. The elephant is going to be stunning. xx
ReplyDeleteLove how your quilts came out, the quilting really sets them off beautifully.
ReplyDeleteI like the 3D masks too, but they still smoosh my nose, seems to have gotten bigger over the years, lol.
I need to try it with a nose piece and see if that helps.
Debbie
So much gorgeousness Fiona....great masks....pity we need them. Your new little project looks lovely xx
ReplyDeleteVery much looking forward to the elephant - that looks like a LOT of fabric! sand so true about the right and wrong sides in foundation piecing . . .Quite an achievement for a month!!
ReplyDeleteWow Fiona, I just love how your Dutch Treat turned out! I had to chuckle when I saw the title of your blog post - it would only make sense to quilters - to others it would seem like a different language! xx
ReplyDeleteFiona, you were super busy. Your Dutch Treat quilt is amazing!
ReplyDeleteSo busy and productive, Fiona! The Elephant is going to be awesome. I'm sure I've told you that I love your finishes - wow! I'm trying to resist the wee birdhouses but they are so cute....!
