At the Station....

We stayed at a large cattle station in the Valley.... and took a tour with the man who started it all.... in his 80's now and full of information and amusing stories....

This is a view from their lovely little rustic (for 2 people) hut.... can you imagine the sunsets from here...

sky couldn't get any more blue, the stars at night were spectacular too

One of the look out sites is called Munroe's lookout..... I asked why and he said... there is a peak that side and another that side!!! I had to laugh!!

One of the trees he pointed out was this bat wing tree, which is apparently rain forest but there are a couple growing there.... you can see why it is called batwing ....

beautiful Queensland bottle tree's throughout the station...

Lots of beautiful cattle.... but I didn't take pictures.....  I was enchanted with how much he loved them and was so respectful when they were on the road... just waited quietly till they moved... so many people hoot and move and bang on doors....

We also took a hike at the station ..... Leichhardt was one of the early explorers... and got lost somewhere along his exploring....  but this was one of the areas he passed through....

very steep walk up rough rocky pathways.....

Piano rock.......

I tried to get an idea of how steep and rocky the pathway was.....

.. finally coming to an overhanging rock where people had popped in many years ago ...

It was pretty special to see these as they would not be viewed by a lot of people

Back down to the valley and this is one set of mountains on one side with the lovely bumpy effect

We did come across quite a few roos at the station....

... and emu's....

It was quite a long drive (over 6 hours) to the station... so I did get a fair bit of crochet done there and back... and a very little bit in the evenings

I am making this blanket with left over yarn from others I have made.... as long as there is enough for 1 or 2 rows it goes in....

with the smaller pieces that won't fit I have started a large colourful granny square....

That's the end of the trip pictures......  sorry if it went on a bit but this is my journal in a way... and I do love to show off the beauty of the places we can visit...

Righto, Gotto Go... we got a surprise storm yesterday so the washing wasn't done.... I still have a couple of loads to catch up!!!

Take care and have a lovely rest of the week....

  6. What an amazing trip you had Fiona - your photos are just wonderful & those skies are so blue. When I was 18 I lived for 6 months in outback Australia (Nullabor region) & am always still fascinated by the terrain & the colours of the landscape.
