A lovely weekend was spent with the wonderful Sunday Stitchers from Brisbane... I was very blessed to be able to go along and spend my weekend days with them....
Thanks Sunday Stitchers.....
The main thing I had wanted to get done was this Fat Quarter Quilt.
The pieces were all cut so it was a matter of choosing which fabric and doing lots of stitching
16 fat quarters and it makes 16 nice bold blocks... a lovely easy quilt for using fabulous fabrics you don't want cut into small pieces.
Tim Holst fabric pack and pattern from The Quilters Angel who have an online store
Thanks The Quilters Angel ....
Of course being away from home I had to make sure Hubz had something to do.... We have this large brick facing wall with no windows (it's behind my oven and fridge and pantry cupboard in the kitchen)
Hubz drilled in the concrete and attached a tight wire for me....
... so now I have a lovely place to hang my finished tops and quilts for photograph taking!
Thanks Hubz.....
This morning I found some backing to use... and I had already bought some of the same fabrics to use for binding....
I want to get this one quilted soonish as it is a gift....
Then I got onto sewing up smaller pieces I had pre-cut...
... and made them into two sweet baby quilts
... and this morning I cut some strips and made up the binding so it is ready when I get to them....
Pre retreat we had been given instructions for cutting a couple of pieces of fabric and we were helped making up lovely little snap bags using cut up tape measure... some Hubby is now missing his tape out the workshop!!!
Thanks Alison and Maureen ...
... then I started on my next big scrappy project.... the red and cream pineapple blocks.
I got quite far but still have a few more rounds to do till they are big enough.
I am doing 25 x 10" blocks
The Sunday Stitchers had Show and Tell for the last UFO which was #5 and for me that was finishing a pair of socks
These socks were done but had been given away to my daughter... made from lovely Bendigo wool
I have enjoyed making the socks, and I enjoy wearing mine so I will do more... one day. I have always loved the idea of hand made socks and wanted to learn to make them. Jane, my friend in UK
has video workshops and so I joined in a couple of years ago and that really helped my confidence. Access to the video's is ongoing so if I forget what I learnt I can go back....
Thanks Jane....
The next UFO challenge is #10... which is my Mouse Quilt......
Quite a lot of work needs to be done for this.... which includes finding where I put the instructions...
Stitcheries were done quite a long time ago and I am going to be using my Tilda left over from other projects pieces as it is not a big quilt/wallhanging....
Righto, Gotto Go.... after a relaxing weekend which finished with a shopping trip to a local quilt shop and some yummy lunch yesterday I have work to do....
You really did get a lot done!
ReplyDeleteYes, that design does work well for the Tim H fabric. It really would be a shame to cut that one into tiny pieces. Great backing as well.
And well done to hubby getting the quilt photography area all set up for you. Great idea.
Lovely work on the baby quilts and the snap bag.
The red and cream create a great effect with the pineapple blocks. They are working out well.
I can imagine cozy toes with your knitted socks. Lovely and warm.
Good luck with your mouse quilt.
You have been a busy girl, Fiona! Love the fabric you have used for that quilt - a great way to use larger pieces. What a clever Hubz you have, a pat on the back from me!
ReplyDeleteLots of lovely sewing at the retreat... & of course some chatting I'm sure, but you accomplished heaps. Well done...xox

ReplyDeleteLove the Tim HOltz fabrics, they have come together beautifully.
Cant wait to see your little mice come together in a top.
Love those pineapple blocks and your socks too, so clever.
How lovely to get to spend some retreat time...sometimes fabrics just need to be in big pieces, the top looks great...love the pineapple blocks...clever Hubz, a great idea to use the wall for a photography space...if you can't find your mice instructions let me know, I have been meaning to make it for years and the pattern really is sitting on the cutting table patiently waiting (and waiting and waiting and waiting...one day!), I've loved those meeces since I saw it made up years and years ago at a little quilt show...
ReplyDeleteYou have been busy. What a good idea as a quilt hanger your hubby is clever.
ReplyDeleteThat particular quilt goes great with the brickwork.
Great wire Hubz has put up for you to display quilts. Perfect backing for the FQ Flimsy.

ReplyDeleteWow that is some amazing work you did all on a weekend! Good job! I love the FQ quilt and I see the 16 blocks.....very interesting! The baby quilts are so sweet and I just finished 16 pineapple blocks for a project.....(but mine were 5x5 made on my embroidery machine). My sister made one of those snap bags for me and I use it to keep my cellphone charging cords in my purse for travel....love it! Looking forward to seeing the Mouse UFO finish!
ReplyDeleteYou made good use of your time on retreat, the fat quarter quilt is wonderful, the Timmy fabrics look great. The baby quilts are cute, I like the colours you have used. The socks look great too, I bet they are warm and comfortable. Have fun with the mice, love the pineapple blocks.

ReplyDeleteThere is always work to do - fortunately - its mostly quilty work (I hope)
ReplyDeleteWe did have fun!
Well done Dave! Its great to have somewhere nice for quilty photos! You got so much done.....love the red/white pineapples and the sweet baby quilts. You needed to come home for a rest lol! Glad you had fun with the girls xx
ReplyDeletegreat idea with the wire to hang up finished tops. Love your stitching and knitting. And still adore your bag you gifted to me. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing how all those reds look so wonderful together in your pineapples? And your hanging wire is brilliant! That brick wall will show off your quilts so nicely. The new Tim Holtz one blends right in :)
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you achieved lots on retreat. I love that you now have somewhere to hang quilts to photograph. I struggle with that, so usually put them on our bed. Your socks look nice and toasty. Have fun finding the instructions for your next quilt.
ReplyDeleteOh my! So many lovely projects. The baby quilts are really lovely and I wish I had the patience to knit socks. Clever quilt hanging idea.
ReplyDeleteWhen you knit socks, do you reinforce the heel in some way? I’ve made several pair but don’t wear them because I wore out the heel after a few wearing a in the first pair.
ReplyDeleteso pleased you had a great time away with the girls....love the pineapple blocks..have wanted to make one of those quilts for a long time....just not happening yet......what a great spot to hang your quilts....sometimes it's hard to find the right spot and then to get back far enough to take the photo......
