FNWF....

Yesterday (Friday) Hubz and I went for a drive up to the Bunya Mountains (about an hours drive from us)

It's a lovely rainforest area... though very dry like lots of other places and there is very little undergrowth....

The area is named for its Bunya pines, with their lovely rounded shaped tops and huge pine cones with edible nuts...

We did the 4km circuit walk, quite a lot of ups and downs with beautiful stops for views...….

smoke haze was not too bad this morning.....

This tree was flowering....

with evidence on the path..... pretty confetti...

and the gardens growing in the trees are always admired.... (the ferns are huge)

Here is another growing on the top of a broken tree....

There are also some beautiful fig trees with their lovely buttresses....

… and local wildlife nibbling on what ferns they could find....

All was going well until the snake was spotted..... a bit of a drama for me..... it was less than 2 metres away on the path.....

Hubz went back for a photo.once I got up the hill far away..... red bellied black snake....

we saw another one later too.... looking for water, the creeks are very low and no undergrowth to hide in

This is a typical bunya tree shape....

You can see just how dry and brown the grass is in the open area... always when I have been it has always been lovely and green and lots of wallabies nibbling....

This sculptor of a hand reaching to the sky is lovely....

The view from our spot where we had a bite to eat.... those obelisk things around the sculptor have information about the area on them....

Another tree flowering... such delicate flowers....

I took this picture on the way home, just below the rainforest area... I love the grass trees and they seem be surviving the drought... lots and lots of dead trees otherwise...

We were home in plenty of time for me to get cleaned up and ready to go out to my double date FNWF and Friday night girls at The Quilters Angel...

Satin stitch on this little stitchery…. lovely quote....

Righto, Gotto Go....  I can't sleep so I may as well go back to that box I am sorting!

Like so many people I am thinking a lot about people who have been affected by the horrible fires in many parts of the country..... with a hot windy weekend predicted.... aaargghhhh

Thanks for sharing pictures of your part of the world. I loved them all except for the snake!!!! I go into hysterics when I encounter one. Something I inherited from my Mother. I am saddened as I read of the fires taking place there and all the devastation. I pray that they may soon be contained.

Good morning my lovely friend, what a beautiful spot you went walking ,that snake would've freaked me out too and had me running for the hills.
I went with my sister to Sorrento yesterday lots of smoke about and on our way back to Portarlington smoke everywhere as well ,we have a windy day here today so I hope a lot if the smoke will blow away.
This will be a lovely block Fiona well done, hope you have a wonderful weekend xx

What a lovely place for a walk,so sad to see you commenting on how dry it is though. I do wish some rain would fall over there.
Ugh! Snakes! Would have given me a scare too.

I would be getting away from that snake too! Oh dear - it looks so dry and it should be so lush. Did you know that many historic houses in Sydney still have the Bunya pines planted by the families who first lived in them, in the early to mid 1800s? Bunya and Hoop pines were looked on as very desirable trees, in those days......if you had one it showed that you were doing well, they were status symbols.

That looked like a great day out except for the snake!! Love the big trees with the butresses, they look so strong. So dry everywhere sadly. Lovely stitchery you are working on.

That looks like my kind of day - except for the snake. Yikes you would not want to step on it.

It looks like you had a great day - with a good bit of exercise and sightseeing followed by some relaxing stitching and chatting. I laughed when I saw Your snake photo! The stitchery will be lovely - wise words.

It has been many years since I have been to the Bunya Mountains. My memories are of green areas all round, so your photos make for interesting viewing.

It is so true that a kind word is never wasted! Are you close to the fires? I hope not, but it sounds like the whole country is just so hot and dry this year. Very worrying! The snake is very handsome, but I would have jumped, too! I like photos of them, but not to encounter them face to face in the wild. Maybe in a zoo! Is that species poisonous?

Lovely coloured variegated thread :)

Your day sounded great. We have only spent a brief time in the Bunya Mountains, but what we have seen is stunning. Mind you, I don't like coming across snakes, even if they are just red bellied blacks. Your stitchery does have a nice sentiment.

What a beautiful place to go hiking, and wonderful views. It is shame that it is so dry there, glad you are safe from the fires.

It must be so terrifying, the pictures we see are horrendous. I saw some fires while I was in Canada, but nothing on that scale.

The whole country is in a dire state...It's the wet season in Qld - but not much happening and it is so badly needed down south.

I recall when DH took my girls thru Binna Burra - the eldest saw a snake - she said a word we had no idea she even knew (she was probably 5)...we didn't know whether to laugh or scold....but DH said later that he gave her 0/10 for saying it - but 10/10 for using it "appropriately"...LOL

Love all the pics of your walk. You hubby got a great photo of the snake. Looks like it was a decent size. Your stitchery is sweet.

Very pretty confetti and I love that tree trunk. The sculpture is brilliant too. What a lovely walk although a shame how dry everywhere is. Glad you had time to sew as well. xx
