I bought this pattern quite a few years ago (the copyright is 2011) and I love that it is quite different to others I have seen. The instructions and pictures are hand done rather than typed out and it just feels fun and personal.
The pattern is by Vivian Robinson (Viv's Creations) who I understand sadly passed away some years ago.... for a while her family continued making her patterns available which is how I got a couple but I haven't seen any others around for a while. It is called Merry Little Christmas
I hope Viv would approve my version of her pattern....
As previously said I did simple quilting around the applique and stitching as well as the borders and then some wriggles in the grey sashing....
Although it's simple to look at I do find going around applique needs concentration and time....
I had done the 'stitchery' by machine … like free motion quilting but only on the top fabric.... I like the scruffy casual look it has made.... and it goes well with the raw edge applique.
A sleeve on the back... and now I need to ask Hubz to look in his shed for a bit of dowling to put in it
The quilt measures 57" x 50" so it's quite big for a wallhanging...
I do love it and look forward to finding just the right spot to hang it up soon....
There is a pillow pattern with the quilt which I would like to do also... but not for this year!
Righto, Gotto Go..... I am working on the quilting on my Postcards quilt.....
Flannel on top..... flannel on back....
Flannel on top..... flannel on back....
not the best choice for this weather …. doing a meander over it and ditch stitch the postcards..... all it needs

I love how each letter of "Christmas" is represented. It will look lovely where you find the hang it.
Wow Fiona this quilt is amazing this is the second one that i have seen made up and i just love love love your version, the colours are stunning and your FMQ is superb on it.
This is going to look awesome hanging up ,well done my friend on your beautiful finish, hope your day is a good one Fiona xx
It might be big but it is a wonderful quilt to have as a wallhanging. Love the row of gifts at the bottom with their nice bows. Love how each letter is used for another Christmas-y word. I also love that it isn't red and green. Excellent job, Fiona. Better hurry to finish the Postcards quilt before the really hot weather hits your spot. ;^)
What a lovely quilt Fiona, just love the colours too.
That is a beautiful quilt and you did a beautiful job on your version.
I have never made a sleeve, I usually hang mine on rods with rod holders that clamp onto it.
Debbie
Merry Little Christmas is perfect Fiona xx
Happy quilting :)
You've done a lovely job of Viv's design..
Great quilting and stitched words.. Will look lovely hung on the wall for Christmas.
Love the hanging! Somehow I missed your last post - your decorations are sweet, and so special because they were delivered by hand.
Your Christmas quilt is lovely, what a beautiful original design. xx
Stitchery by machine sounds like a great idea and it looks fantastic, but do you use a heavier thread in your machine to get this to stand out so well?
Beautiful quilt Fiona, Love the colours you have chosen. I like Viv's design's I think I have some tucked away 😁 for the one day plan!! There is a lot of applique on your quilt, it may look simple but it isn't in terms of sewing. Wonderful finish it will be great hung up. Looking forward to seeing your post cards quilt.
I think Viv would be very happy with your version
Congratulations on a sweet finish, Fiona! You're right that it takes a bit of care to stitch around the applique'. You did a great job :)
I love it and Viv would definitely approve I am sure.....one of my favourite Aussie designers! Viv and her wonderful designs and are missed. Your quilting sets it off beautifully xx
