We stayed in a variety of places.... one was a delightful Airbnb. The room was at the back of an old cottage.... they still had the outdoor cooking area which was just lovely to see....
The comfortable room with a very cold shower room was at the back of this cottage (not their fault is was a freezing night)
We passed via Bowral on our way and stopped for a much longer than planned time at the Bradman Museum. This is the oval where the museum is based. It is still used.
Both Hubz and I (he more than me) do enjoy the cricket and there was so much information in there... really a good visit and a lovely café for some refreshments....
Here is the sculpture of "The Don".... (Bowral is where he came from)
Down Kangaroo Valley and over Hampden Bridge (heritage listed) ...
… and then we went back to the coast to Narooma for a few nights. Lots of lovely walks and drives....
This is a seal which was happily floating and playing in the Bay one evening....
… and a ray which came right close to the jetty (actually saw quite a few)
We stayed right next to a golf course and so had some lovely walks.... we were standing at the tee and the shot was over the sea to the other side.... so beautiful...
We went to a really lovely historic town where they have kept most of the houses in the street as authentic as possible... I am silly but I didn't take pictures - except of our tea and scones which was served in lovely china crockery..... The little villages Central Tilba and Tilba Tilba (very close by each other) If you are interested just google it and there are lots of pictures....
Then down to Melbourne..... this time I was simply too busy playing with a couple of gorgeous little lads to take pictures...
We went to the Antarctic display - and spent a happy couple of hours playing there...
We also went and braved the freezing cold and wet to watch the Little Penguins come in..... It was a very choppy high tide and only a few came in and we all got very wet and cold.....
Not the most successful evening but a lovely spot none-the-less.
But those Little Penguins are just darling..... and we saw some on the walk back.... they had come out to wait for their partners coming in and were calling away.....
Sometimes the penguins need a bit of help keeping warm (hurt, injured etc) so I have started knitting a penguin jacket...
I managed to get some pure wool so I am using that. The actual penguins need pure wool but acrylic ones are also welcome and get sold on little toys ones to raise money for them. Information about the Knits for Nature project is HERE....
Righto, Gotto Go... better get back to that penguin jumper knitting!
Looks like you've all had lots of fun. Look forward to seeing your little penguin jacket
ReplyDeleteHi Fiona. I have been out of the loop but have enjoyed catching up on your travels. You have been busy. Sorry you had such a cold time at the penguins. I often visit the island to see friends and it can get very cold, wet and windy there. But I am pleased you still managed to see a few of the little guys.
ReplyDeleteYou passed through some of my favourite areas - Southern Highlands, Kangaroo Valley and the South Coast. Looks like some quality family time was had. Looking forward to seeing the penguin jacket when finished.
ReplyDeleteHi Fiona love your pics especially the one of the cliff, such a beautiful picture.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely that you got to spend time with the family at Phillip island.
Thankyou for sharing your travels with us,hope you have a lovely evening my friend xx
A lovely trip through some gorgeous country! We saw the penguins many years ago, at least it was in summer.
ReplyDeleteWow! Lots of lovely places. As I was reading your post and got to Kangaroo Valley, it dawned on me that you probably don't have places named Moose Creek or Beaver Trail. It's funny thought that we all honor our native animals no matter the country. I loved the outdoor cooking area. Fabulous! In the blue picture, was that a live penguin? I so commend you for taking the time to knit a jumper for the wee one. Adorable! Enjoy! ;^)
ReplyDeletePenguin jumpers?? Who knew there was such a thing! Sounds like you had a wonderful time :)
ReplyDeleteGreat photos
ReplyDeleteYou were so close to me at the penguins
Arent they just the cutest and good on you for making a jumper for them
What a lovely holiday. It sounds like you had a fabulous time and you were quite close to me when you went through Kangaroo Valley and to the coast.
ReplyDeleteThe little penguins are super cute - we visited when Amelia was in a pram (she turns 12 in a couple of weeks). I look forward to seeing your little penguin jacket.
You are visiting some wonderful places, love the old outdoor cooking area.
ReplyDeleteThe penguin sweater is so cute and such a wonderful and fun project to help out.
Debbie
A lovely time - great sights and family time.
ReplyDeleteI have that pattern - must get some real wool and make one..or two??
I'm enjoying your travels. We've been to Bowral a few times but never the museum, which is a bit odd as Mick loves his cricket. Likewise, we've been to Phillip Island several times for the bike races, but never to the penguins of an evening, only during the daytime......One day. The little vests are so cute. A simple make that can make such a difference.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness you had the coldest weekend for the penguin parade! They are so cute when they come in. I am enjoying hearing of your travels. Lovely for you to spend time with the little ones.
