I got to go on a pre-booked bus trip to meet up with Michelle.....
We met up at Beenleigh Quilters show... they had quite a lovely variety of quilts, and a trading hall and a lovely room full of ladies sharing their crafts.
I neglected to take pictures as my phone was almost on empty (silly me forgot to charge it) but Michelle said I could use some of hers.... (thanks Michelle)
I enjoyed seeing a Splendid Sampler - this is one that I made aswell (mine is still not quilted) though this lady did a lot more blocks and her setting is just lovely - shows the blocks off so well....
I thought this was a really fun foundation pieced quilt....
Michelle has quite a few more pictures of quilts.... go HERE for a look...
I found some of this Japanese style fabric which I have been coveting for some time - it was drastically reduced so of course I couldn't leave it behind....
this is one of the hand made goodies on sale...
a clever little project pouch with a bunch of zip lock bags in it....
I have no idea what I will use it for..
… an easy thing to make ….
and I also found this set of little cases.....
I have no idea why I bought them….. but they are sweet and could store fabric..... impulse buy which is silly of me.... they all fit inside each other
Finally I also got to go to ChooseDay sewing too …
I sewed a Dresden plate circle for Flowerville
now I need to applique it down and add the stitchery to the centre
Then I did a bit of fiddly little foundation piecing.... to make a micro mini quilt.....
this will be a part of something else but it took me ages it needs its own special mention....
I have had a bunch of Marilyn's project binders planned for ages... I managed to quilt the panels for the back previously and started putting these together....
They have clear vinyl on the fronts.... I just need to sew down the binding for them now.....
Marilyn's free tutorial is HERE
More soup has been made - this time pumpkin
(last week I had a big fail pumpkin soup and it all went down the plughole)
… happily this one worked just fine....
I feel a bit bored with my soups... same same always
got any good soup recipes anyone????
...perfect for a cool evening.....
Righto, Gotto Go.... some binding to do.....
Great post full of all kinds of Quilty goodness! That pouch with the zip lock bags is similar to the Busy Bags I make for kids. I was always going to adapt the pattern to gallon size bags for sewing essentials. Guess someone beat me to it! Glad you had a nice trip!
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt pics! I just throw whatever vegies I have into the slow cooker, sometimes chop in a bit of chopped chook and/or bacon if I want to really push the boat out......cauliflower and bacon is a good combination. Roasting the pumpkin first is yummo, too.
ReplyDeleteLovely outing with the ladies viewing beautiful quilts....
ReplyDeleteThe SS has 132 blocks, 32 more than the original.. sure is big...
Cute wee cases could store 1 1/2" blocks ??
Thats a tiny foundation pieced quilt..
So glad you enjoyed the show - you were in good company of course and the quilts look beautiful! Scrummy buying... I occasionally have the odd - why did I buy it' moment too but those cases look very lovely and handy :-) OMG that really is fiddly foundation piecing - but oh so effective!! I love soup making - making a stock with bacon bones/ ham hock/chicken carcass, then after 'sorting' throwing in whatever veges are around and a pack of soup mix (GF for me but there are various packs around with dried stuff in them that add extra flavour and bits). If you are making pumpkin soup, I do believe the flavour of the original pumpkin makes a huge difference to the end result. Some are foul to start with and foul to finish with!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your purchases, those suitcases are really very cute. Your foundation pieced block is gorgeous. I agree with Raewyn about the pumpkin affecting the flavour. I found mine just wasn't right in flavour either when i made it the other week. Figured the pumpkin was a little to green when picked. As for other recipes i'm keen to find some new ones too. :) Hugs,xx
ReplyDeleteI have been challenging myself to make one new soup recipe each winter for a few years, but got stuck on Chirizo and bean (minestrone with chirizo basically) but an old favorite is Corn Chowder. I can send you the recipes if you like. Love your mini foundation pieced, might have been fiddly but it was worth it!

ReplyDeleteThis is same as my recipe.

And the chirzo soup recipe I just add in celery and carrots. Enjoy!
Your mini mini made of solids is so modern and fun! And I love those project pouches and should try some myself. Fun purchases on your fun day with a friend :)
ReplyDeleteThroughly enjoyed our day together. I don't think, after looking at that teeeeeny quilt that you are allowed to call me crazy with my little hexies anymore lol! Another lovely Flowerville ready and waiting. I always add sweet potato and ordinary potato to my pumpkin soup....seems to boost the soup, particularly if the pumpkin is a bit of a bland one.
ReplyDeleteWoo hoo for the MAROONS!!
It looks like it was a great show and I do love how she set her blocks and the 3D look.
ReplyDeleteLove your new goodies, I still have japanese taupes that I have been collecting, a future quilt.
Debbie
LoVe love LOVE the splendid Sampler quilt on display...
ReplyDeleteAnd your little cases are just gorgeous...
Great day out by the looks of this post...xox
The Japenese fabric looks lovely, you'll enjoy finding the perfect project for it. Love the binders, great idea
ReplyDeleteYes I thought the setting on that SS quilt was brilliant when I saw it on Michelle's post. The Japanese fabrics look interesting! The little suitcases are adorable as is you mini mini quilt! Lentil soup and pea and ham are our favourite soups! xx
ReplyDeleteI think we all make impulse purchases at quilt shows I’m sure you will make use of them. I love your tiny piecing. Very fiddly. I’ll copy my favourite soup recipe and email it to you. It’s quick, easy and delicious.
ReplyDeletesaw the lovely quilts from the show that Michelle posted on her blog, gorgeous.
ReplyDeletelove that mini mini block!! wow, funny to think we were just talking about questionable sanity lol
I love potato and leek soup, with a bit of bacon thrown in for the carnivores in the household.
So much to read about - my favourite soup is pumpkin - I roast the pumpkin first and add some Moroccan seasoning and add bought chicken stock. Love the set of cases - that would have been hard to resist...sometimes we need a treat!
ReplyDeleteHow nice you got to catch up with Michelle. Love that little mini...... Lovely quilts to..... Soup I'm no help...
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun day out with Michelle and friends, not to mention the purchases.
ReplyDeleteYour soup looks delicious and I can almost feel the health benefits just looking at your photo.
My soups are just left over veggies at the end of the week and some Campbells chicken stock.
My little secret addition is one tomato quickly dipped into the soup when it comes to the boil.
Remove it after a quick dip to peel off the skin, squeeze out the seeds and chop the remains and return to the soup to cook with all the veggies. Gives it a lovely colour but maybe not for pumpkin soup.
