The Weekend that was.....

I do love weekends.....

We went to a small country town about an hour away and had a really bad lunch at the pub.... haha, my chicken was so dry and overcooked but I lied and told them it was lovely....

Then a spent a few hours with a lovely lady called Lynne and she let me play on her long arm quilting machine and gave me so many ideas.... yes, I am looking at extending my quilting and getting one..... giving me sleepless nights I can tell you....  Such a lovely lady and so generous with her time and knowledge - so good to get that encouragement from someone in the same industry.  Nothing is definite yet.... but I am going to talk to a dealer! hmmmm

Other than that there is green coming though on my lawn - we have had some lovely rain - not heaps but enough to get some water in tanks and give the garden a good soak.....

Some more work was done on the shadehouse - Hubz put up these trellises for a couple of climbers that have already started climbing!

…. and we also put wire on some for other lighter climbers (not so easy to see but there is mesh around the posts)

I am enjoying watching new growth happening on our plants - with the warmer weather and now a bit of rain

Joy is doing a series this month about 'Organising' our crafty things.... she has been giving me some ideas and I thought I would also share how I organise some of my things...

I have sets of drawers in my quilting room (where I pin my quilts) and on one end nails have been hammered in and I hang my rulers from there.....  In between the sets of drawers is a big space and that is used for storing all sorts of boards and rolls....

My most favourite storage solution is this cutlery holder which has been painted (not by me - this was a gift)

I made dividers and now it stores my DMC threads.....  I have them in numerical order and by no means have an extensive collection but I do add to it when I need another colour for a project....

This is a really show off picture of my threads... these I use for quilting so I have built up a good selection of colours….. Hubz made me one of those boards with pegs to fit my drawer and they all sit in there - very easy and convenient to find the colour I need.

Joy has all sorts of other ideas and also reading the comments I am finding great ideas.

On the crafting front I have pulled out my crochet …. this is a ripple blanket.  I made a big one some time ago and there was a fair bit of yarn left over so I am making a mini one with the leftovers.  There is not a lot of it left to do - it will be good to have another thing done and out the way...

Righto, Gotto Go..... new week, lots happening, work to do, but first...… coffee....

  1. I usually say something when the food is that bad, just depends. When we had lobster the last night, mine was old and tough and I was disappointed, but didn't say anything at that point. I have a sit down, someday I will use it, lol. I do have tops i can practice on, so now that things are slowing down, time to clean up my room and start practicing.

  3. It's a big decision isn't it? - you need to make sure you get the best one.. Harder than buying a car I think - at least its easy enough to test drive them.
Love the ripples...we have had ooodles of rain - shall I send it to you - then Chooky?
you know about my threads - and my rulers are on a pegboard - similar to your idea!

  7. Your shade house is coming along very nicely. I can only imagine how nice this will be when your climbers have grown and covered the place. Oh! I want to go and stitch with you in the shades. :^(
I too have my rules on nails at the end of my cutting table. I love the cutlery holder. I believe I still have my mother's and I believe I will paint it, haha! I'm off to see Joy and read what else could be good for my sewing room. Thanks for sharing, Fiona. Have a wonderful week. ;^)

  9. All very neat and organised, saves so much time knowing where everything is instead of hunting around. Enjoy researching your long arm, sounds exciting xcx

  10. Your shaded area will be so nice once everything grows up. I do love your thread box. So much nicer than my plastic numbers.

  11. LOL no matter what - first, coffee. Oh girl I love your shady area, so lovely to see it coming together and things growing. Your floss box is gorgeous, so much prettier than my plastic boxes, and your thread drawer made me drool! I went looking at longarms at one time, with my pinched nerve problems in my neck the only one I could do was the one you could program to do it for you, and my budget wouldn't allow that, lol. Your storage drawers with the rulers is wonderful.
I have to laugh at all the ripple blankets - so pretty - my mom made them for all family members back in the 60's, funny how things come around again!

  12. Oh, that big display of Aurifil thread just makes me drool a bit! It must be so expensive to buy for you. I hope you have a local source and it doesn't have to be shipped internationally! I hope you're having a great week so far, Fiona :)

That is a big decision to make.
Great to see progress continuing in your garden.
And lovely to see you working on the ripple blanket again.
Thanks for sharing your storage ideas. There are so many ways to do things and every now and then one just works right for you.

  15. I saw on an earlier post that you were thinking of a long arm.....how cool to have the chance for a decent play on one. It will be very exciting but as you say, a big decision to make. Love your little storage ideas...that's a great thread collction - is that Aurifil, and is that what you mostly use for your quilting? YoOur garden looks lovely - so much more organised than mine!

  16. Oh dear! Long arm quilters sound to me like that ghastly allover pattern quilting with no regard to the patchwork design underneath! Your quilting is so beautiful as it is and loved by all. I love your use of the cutlery box. xx

  17. It is going to be so lovely and cool in your new shade area. As a very slovenly stitcher I shall just slink away into my disorganisation lol!
