I have done some work on UFO's this month.....
I have done 4 more blocks for Dutch Treat... there are still 16 to do so a few more months with this one at the rate I am going.....
My lovely chair kept losing it's gas and I would literally get a 'sinking feeling' which was no good as I was quilting ….
Hubz bought some PVC pipe and clamps and fitted it on the chair.... I don't need it to go up and down so this is perfect..... it was so frustrating having to lift it up so often....
I thought I would show you incase any of you get this problem
Other UFO's I have worked on were these 3 little stitcheries that I had...…
They have all been made into needle cases. I didn't stitch the little knitting lady - it was in my Moms things many years ago and I have always kept it.... I think it may have been used as a book mark.
I ordered this set of bits to make snap fasteners for my bibs and it came this week - a lovely assortment of colours and nice easy peasy gadget to stick them down....
… so it means I have finished these little bibs - here I used towelling on the back and a couple of pieces of sweet vintage fabrics (the bottom 3)
these ones are sweet patterns - I saw one and wanted a pattern, the quilt shop was so sweet and spent ages finding it for me - it was a book so I ended up buying a book just for the bib patterns
Thanks again to Joy who hosts Finishing Stitches to encourage finishing and working on UFO's - and thanks to Peg and Kris for hosting OPAM.... it really helps motivate....
The bibs were so fun to do ... I think I will use the middle pattern to make a mug rug for Hubz…. he has been home this week building a humungous fernery out the back... and of course I am here to help and lift timber, and hold nails... and ……. as a result not much quilting has been done....
Of course I don't mind really - the fernery will shade the bedrooms and make a huge difference to the heat in the house during summer when we need coolness - I am looking forward to plant shopping time - still a way to go...
This is what we started with... very dry grass and our hardy bottle brushes on the fenceline are dying too from no rain....
Poles have been cemented in and main arches made.... today he is working on cross pieces in between the arches which have needed cutting to size and painting.....
It's going to be such a lovely cool area one day.....
Righto, Gotto Go.... the worker needs me.....

Those snaps are on my to buy list. Are they as easy to use as they say they are? Looks like you've got hubby working hard
Pretty Dutch Treats - love the lady with the umbrella - and those darling bibs!! So cute! You're going to have a gorgeous place there Fiona, I can just picture it finished, well done hubby!!
Your pergola will make a tremendous difference in the summer......we have a roofed verandah attached to the back of our house which had to be re-roofed a few years ago. In the middle of summer. Once the roof was off we realised why it had been put on in the first place, and couldn't wait for it to be replaced!
Those bibs are too cute. I didn’t know you could buy a snap kit like that. I’ve just been using metal ones from Spotty. It will be so nice to have a shaded fernery. Some rain for all the garde would be nice too.
Hats off to clever, handy husbands!
Bet the tree DT block was tricky to stitch...
Lovely way to use the little stitcheries and how nice to still have the special piece of your Mum's.
Those colourful snaps are a great buy. Such sweet bibs.
Hubz is a clever guy, not only fixing the chair problem but building your fabulous fernery....
Your fernery will be so lovely and cool when it is finished! That kind of shade makes such a huge difference in the heat of the day. I have the opposite problem with my adjustable chair. I come back to my studio and it is always fully extended, as tall as possible! Fortunately, it only takes a quick sit down to squash it back to the right height. But it's a bit of a mystery! :)
Your bibs are fun and I love the plastic snap fasteners - I must look out for some of those. I have never heard of a fernery so looking forward to see how you plant it up. xx
You've gotten a lot done! And Finishing Stitches has been awol, sorry... where did you buy the snaps and the tool? I've been wanting to buy them for a while now. Those bibs are soooo cute!! xx
Hi Fiona, happy Sunday my friend. Love your blocks, you have made so many of these and they are all stunning. Love your bibs and that kit looks amazing ,can i please ask where you got them from.Your new fernery will look fantastic, lol,i keep thinking of you pole dancing, lol xx
Lovely finishes with the needle cases and the bibs. The bibs are gorgeous.
And well done with the blocks too.
The PVC pipe is a great solution for your chair. Very smart thinking.
Yes, there is nothing better than shade for cooling down and it looks like you are well on the way to achieving that! Lots of hard work but a great end result.
The bibs are wonderful Fiona, the fernery is coming together well. Supervision is obviously working well 😆😆 , great idea formthe chair.
Love the bibs - looks like you will be able to make plenty!! I'd be interested to hear where you got them too.
