First up this week I finished off the binding for my new quilt.....
It was made from a layer cake and extra metreage from a set of botanical type prints that I just totally fell in love with.....
... so no cutting up was done, I used the squares as they were and added sashing, corner stones and a border....
Then quilted it with shapes based on the oak style shape leaf in some of the prints
It just goes down the sides and the foot end a little, which is all we need on our cool/warm evenings
I love sitting in bed looking at the prints and stroking the texture ... gosh I really love the feel of quilts!!!
Tuesday we got back to sewing our blocks for the 4 x 5 anthology..... these 8 were done.... every now and then I do a little bit of fussy cutting for the blocks.... occasional little peeks of a picture....
...we are over 1/3rd of the way through our blocks now....
... these two little pictures were stitched for my Gardeners Journal quilt.... still a few more to go....
... and this Dutch Treat block took quite a few evenings of stitching ....
Christine has designed this gorgeous embroidery focussed quilt... and gifted a pattern to me..... it is so pretty and detailed ..... my picture doesn't do it justice at all but I have been lucky enough to see the real thing.
Last night my daughter invited me to join her going to a workshop to learn about Komboocha.... I gather it has been around ages but it's my first time trying it..... so I brought home this lump of fungus and am going to give it a go... supposed to be good for you... anybody try this and any effects?
It tasted nice so I thought even if I end up making our morning fruit juice drink it will have saved us money in the end....
looks like it is an alien thing...and might take over my kitchen!
I sent off this quilt to my son in Melbourne.... I've had it in the house for a while as it was a pattern I wanted to try. It was made using up 5 hawaain print brand new shirts from the op shop... I had to buy for the sashing and a fun retro sheet from the op shop....
A fun way to try something new, make up a fun quilt that I'm not going to be precious about if it's jumped on, food spilt on etc...
I am hearing rain on my roof... I am happy today.... and I have some quilting to do ...
Hope you have a wonderful weekend....
That was the perfect fabric for your quilt, really beautiful on that side too, and the quilting to match really brings it all together. Love the fun quilt too, I like the prints.

Great quilt made from recycled Hawaiian shirts....
My DD has a brew like that in her cupboard, must be the latest thing .. Enjoy!!!!
Oh sew are you going to make that sweet embroidered quilt ????

ReplyDeleteI love your pretty botanicals quilt. Gosh you quilted it beautifully! Great wips and fun quilt for DS. Christines quilt is just lovely. I thought hubby was your Fun GI LOL!
ReplyDeleteYou're new quilt is lovely. Sometimes simple is the best way to go.
ReplyDeleteI've heard of that brew, and it sounds quite disgusting so I haven't tried it! Not very adventurous, perhaps......love those projects, your new quilt is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI love your blue quilt - love how a simple pattern can look so pretty.. and your quilting is gorgeous too. Yes I've heard kombucha is very good for you... haven't tried it yet though.. let us know if it takes over your kitchen! xx
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt especially the no fuss making. I have heard of kombucha, not sure of the taste, waiting to hear the verdict.
ReplyDeleteI love that simple, yet beautiful quilt on your bed! Those fabrics are lovely and I don't blame you one bit for refusing to cut them up. The Hawaiian shirt quilt looks great, too. I have also been eyeing that pattern, it looks pretty straightforward and the blocks should go together quickly. The red sashing is very festive :)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, love your quilt and the quilting.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great finish on your quilt and the quilting is gorgeous. Such beautiful work. It looks lovely on your bed.
ReplyDeleteGreat work on your blocks in all projects.
I am fascinated by the quilt made with the shirts. That is very effective.
We were just talking about komboocha this afternoon. It seems to be either a love it or hate it relationship with most people. Good luck.
can't wait to see the botanicals in real life.....it looks lovely.........wow your blocks look fantastic on the wall......goodluck with the brew.......there are a few around here making it but I have not got the hang of it yet.......one day......it is supposed to be good for your gut health isn't it?????
ReplyDeletelooks like a few wet days for you to enjoy.....the gardens will love it.........
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is beautiful, enjoy the patting!! You are going so well with the blocks in your projects, not long and you will be done. Love the shirt quilt, that will be loved I am sure! No experience with komboocha but I have heard it is good for you.
ReplyDeleteGosh, I love your quilt! In all it's simplicity, it makes a very bold statement. My daughter has asked me to make a quilt for her twin sized guest room bed and that might be the perfect choice, but I'd have to choose the perfect bundle like you did!
ReplyDeleteWow I just love this post and especially your bed quilt! And I love Kombucha too.....it’s great for my tummy if it feels a bit gurgly or upset or something!
ReplyDeleteSo much busy-ness happening there - what a clever idea about the shirts. and an easy quilt for your bed too...very pretty fabrics...my DH is always complaining that all the quilts are too small to go over the sides of the bed...perhaps I need a new project...???LOL??? - 2018 maybe
ReplyDeleteI love what you have done with that fabric Fiona. We're doing a mystery stitchery with the same line at work and it's looking beautiful too - that fabric is just so lovely :-) Great work on your blocks too, you seem to be doing a good job of keeping up with it all. Christine's design is gorgeous - another Must Do, I'm sure! My neighbour grows that Kombucha too but I've never worked out what it's all about...!
ReplyDeleteSo much happening there for you Fiona! I love that you made such a beautiful quilt from those very pretty squares... that DT block looks like a brain-bender... Anthology is coming along just beautifully!
ReplyDeleteYou have been busy with some lovely quilts and quilting , it is always fun to see what you are up to . 😊
ReplyDeleteHi Fiona
ReplyDeleteLovely finishes and awesome quilting.
Fiona, that quilt is just lovely!!! And look at all your blocks - that is looking really amazing. How many more Dutch Treat blocks to go? So pretty. Love the quilt you sent to your son, it's good to have some around that can be well-used. I remember when my hubby ordered a lump of that fungus off the internet - it sat, in its packaging, in the fridge, for years. Never did do anything with it.....
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt and meant to dive in for a closer look on Tuesday(with permission) the leaves are the perfect quilting choice. really lovely.
