Thanks again dear Wendy for hosting FNSI.....
I pretended everything was in it's rightful place and spent the day sewing ...
It's hard to see the lines but I stencilled out a whole lot of mini clams to quilt the background on this block
I also watched a DVD and learnt to do this free motion technique of 'couching' ... soooo fun although I need a lot more practice as there are lots of places I missed the yarn.
Not being a knitter I am going to have to stock up on yarn now!!
In the evening I went off and met with Kris and others at The Quilters Angel where I carried on with the applique of these angels and stars - not too much more to do now
of course there were treats to eat but I didn't take pics so you will just have to imagine apple, currants, cake, sticky sauce, caramel icecream, pretty plate, pretty fork, silence in the room
One thing that was on my 'must have' list for our new home was a larger area to do quilting.... this house has a 'formal lounge' as well as the open plan living area and the room is perfectly placed and nice and big for my playroom....
Hubz prioritized sorting a pinning table for me (for some reason he feels I shouldn't always be taking over the dining table!!) and I wanted it to have storage too...
After looking at a few places we found 4 of the same sets of drawers - so they would all be at the same height (I would have liked to have had a combination of drawers and shelves but that was going to be heaps more $)
we also purchased and had a melamine board cut to size (1.2 x 2m)
Saturday we put the flat packs together over rather a lot of laughing and silliness
(flat packs work as a couple if the apprentice (hubz) listens to the boss who reads instructions!)
.... we went to bed tired but happy ....
...the next day the frames were all placed upside down and attached to a base to provide stability (I was also going to put wheels on and this was going to help in attaching them)
.. however, I realised I had misjudged the height and decided against the wheels... a bit of heave ho and a few bruises later we turned it right side up and put the drawers in....
Shrek is a lovely beast and that is how this table got its name (and the fact he lives with Princess Fiona) ....2 sets of drawers on both sides and a gap in the middle for storing those odd shape things. I already have a big scrap bin on one side. It's very heavy so it's not going to shift anywhere either.
I have some trim to put on the raw chip board sides which that will stop it catching on precious fabric.
Its a perfect size and height for both pinning and cutting... this table is going to be so very useful....
Blog friend Helen is having a significant birthday later this year and has been collecting tea pots for a special quilt and I was happy to be able to make one for her
(my picture is very murky - the actual item is a bit brighter!)
It's going to be fun seeing her quilt come together with all different shapes and styles of teapots
Righto, Gotto Go.... I need to find a place I can create a yarn stash!

I got a special foot for couching and it is fun, and the nice thing is, it feeds the yarn and sews over it, so I don't have to worry about missing;) Love your cabinet, I need one of those, I have an old table which is big enough but for storage I have a mixed mess of plastic containers and drawers under it.

That couching is very impressive! Wow! Love Shrek, it's going to be fabulous. Love Helens block...pretty xx
Dear Fiona,
lots of beautiful sewing, love the teapot, couching and the angle project, and your new sewing table, storage and all these drawers. Very useful.
Greetings,
Sylvia
Shrek has so many useful looking drawers! Your teapot for Helen is just lovely and your couching...beyond description! What fun you will have buying exciting yarn.
Very time consuming drawing those clams..Fabulous couching...
Bet you had a great FNSI with the others....
WOW Shriek looks great and the gap in the middle will hold a big roll of wadding nicely..
Helen's block is very pretty....
What a busy quilting time you have been having! I am very impressed with your stitching projects but I am in awe of your cutting table and new workroom. This is brilliant. I want to come and play!! Damn, I just forgot I don't live around the corner. I will just enjoy your photos instead.
Those clamshells are going to look gorgeous, very pretty Hexie too.
Assembling flat packs should be undertaken before you get married as its a true test of character lol
Helen's block is very pretty
Aren't you so clever, love your new cutting table. Very cute hexies too.
Have I told you how amazing you are .. I hope I have ... Treat table 😊😍💖
Your projects are beautiful and Shrek - what can I say, wonderful piece to add to your space :)
Such lovely projects, and Shrek is pretty amazing too. I'm a knitter and my yarn stash is a little out of control. pop round and you can take some home with you.
Wow very busy. If you want to be able to move the cutting table you can get gliders that just pop under each end but they dont work on carpet very well.
Flat packs are the things that divorces come from....LOL. You have certainly ended up with a lovely big working and storage space. You certainly had a very productive sewing day. Such a cute teapot stitchery.
Very cute hexies and wow aren't you clever love your cutting table
That cutting table is awesome, Love all your projects.
Hi Fiona, what a great idea for you to use as your pinning and cutting table,it looks fantastic and it will be awesome to use,i also love the teapot block that you made for Helen, hope you have a lovely sunday my friend xx
Love that table. Great projects your are working on. The teapot is so pretty. Hugs,xx
Lovely post with pretty and great things to share ... looks like you've transitioned into your new home beautifully :o)
Those clam shells are so 'twee & cute'. Is it for hand quilting or machine? I would hate to think for machine! Loving the new sewing space...I had the formal lounge and dining in our last house and loved the space....now I am downsized to a small bedroom until our new house is built...oh it is hard! I hope you will show regular progress shots of the space as it develops. Monday on Bits'nBobs is a link party....would love to see you there.

Well hey Princess Fiona, your couching is looking mighty fine, and so is Shrek! Wowzers I'm jealous. Love the teapot you made for Helen!
How great to have a bigger, better sewing space with lots of storage and flat tops to cut, pin and sew on! The free motion couching looks interesting - I haven't seen this before. Love your applique. What is it going to be? Looks very long.
So many fun things happening over there....love the cabinet and all of your projects
Wow! Crouching, new table WITH drawers for storage.....lots of fun times, you know how to do it all!
I see you have the flat pack heirarchy right - boss vs slave. That couching looks great and am envious of the huge cutting table...maybe I can tell my DH that we don't need the formal lounge room anymore . . .???
Love Shrek, very practical. Think I need the boys to move out, lol
What a brilliant work station - looks perfect to me. Looks like your Friday was a good day too. xx
PS I think your work station is as big as my sewing area!!
Oh Fiona, always fun stitching with you! You've certainly had a busy weekend and Friday night. Can't wait to see your new sewing room all decked out with shrek xox
Your new table is great, i'm sure it will get heaps of use because you are always so productive making so many gorgeous things
A cabinet maker as well..you just keep on surprising me with your talents. Surprised you didn't give yourself a hernia tipping that big girl over. It looks great.
