The weekend that was.....

The last block of my sampler is done now.....

..... that satin stitch seemed to take me ages.... I did a line of backstitch for and filled in the leaves with two detached chain stitches instead 

(it is a sampler so I wanted to show different things I could do!!!)


... in addition I managed to finish off a Christmas Item... this is a stitchery I did last year sometime and just needed to make it up .... just needed borders and that little bit of hand quilting around the edge

It is from Gail Pan's book "Simply Christmas" and this is my One Christmas Item for February


... when I was at the sewing weekend I forgot to change the stitch on my machine and sewed into metal.... I've managed to break needles before but not bend like this.... I was quite impressed with my ability to make fishing hooks....


... this weekend I did the first step for my apron and cut off the back and sleeves.... 


..... I have kept the label... (but I took off what size it said it was!!!! - some things should stay personal don't you think?)


I live in a small town 20km from a larger city .... a few years ago when there was floods our little creek grew and grew and grew and thus damaged the side rails rather badly... we have had this mess for a while now....


... but now our wonderful new bridge is being built next to the old broken one.....


... impressive .... I think we'll be safe from the flood waters now....  I am going to enjoy watching the process of building this up ....

    wow that last piece of the times gone by looks amazing. your satin stitch looks gorgeous!
    cute stitchery and a good start to your shirt apron. Will follow this with interest.
    not sure that cloud is too impressed with the new bridge over troubled water?

    Lovely stitching Fiona and if I ever need a fish hook I know just who to ask.... lol. That will be a very impressive bridge when finished.

    Lovely sampler, your stitching is beautiful. I'm glad that needle didn't go through your finger, you must have been speeding to get such a hook! Always good to see some repairs on our roads and bridges.

    Gosh - love the fishing hook - LOL! I love your little hexie piece, as well as the Gail Pan with the variegated threads. And I'm anxious to see your apron. I started one a few months ago, but it eventually went into the trash. I just couldn't get the right angle cut for the front. Will have to try again.

    Two cute finishes. Just hope you are finished making fish hooks though with your machine! Yikes, mind you better to bend then break, I always worry about bits flying into my eyes when they break. Happy stitching.

    That is quite the bend, I usually just snap mine by hitting a needle.

    Beautiful work on the sampler. The stitches do take ages but they are lovely.
    I am impressed with the fish hook making!

    What adorable projects!!!! Love that Christmas design. I'm quite impressed with your fish hook, I've done that too, so glad the fabric caught it and not my eye. Can't blame you for cutting off the size, lol....I hate tags that "tell" on me. Have fun watching the bridge go up!!!

    Beautiful work and I have never bent and needle that much, just a slight curve. It'll be great when the new bridge is finished.

    Oh wow, that needle! I've done that before and the needle usually breaks, and it such a horrible feeling. Have fun with the shirt

    Great idea about detached chain as a filler :) well done on starting the apron- I've bought a shirt- that counts right? ;) Lovely hook you made, I did something similar at one stage (ages ago), didn't seem to adversely effect the machine at all, who would have thought :) Oh yay for a new bridge! Good to see they are planning ahead for much bigger floods, er yikes!
