My aeroplanes are still on their baking paper.....
I have now made my lengths of sky but I keep them on the baking paper whilst I set out how I want them to go.....
you can see here that taken off the baking paper the pieces still stick to each other where they have overlapped... this means I can keep my whole aeroplane in one piece......
... and place it on my background and move it around until is is just right.... and then press with the iron to hold firm in place prior to stitching .....
... here is a picture of them all together on the background - all pressed.... next job to sew them... I am going to do machine buttonhole....
This quilt is called Up and Away and is by Kids Quilts
I have used scraps for the planes and the background was in my stash
... and I have another girlie quilt block finished....
Righto, Gotto Go ...... machine buttonhole stitching to do...... so fun....

My son (and husband) would adore this quilt. It looks fantastic.
Love the aeroplanes!! Your butterfly is very cute too!
xx
Machine applique is way heaps easier and quicker than doing it by hand!
I love the planes and butterflies. I'm going to have to try your baking paper method. And try the machine buttonhole stitch. It has GOT to be better than hand stitching (for me anyway!).
They look wonderful!!! You are definitely motoring (flying) along with your projects.
You've been a busy girl! Your aeroplanes are awesome and every girly block of your other quilt just gets more and more precious!

great process - so is it fusible web you use? and that doesn't stick to baking paper? We have greaseproof paper over here, would that be the same thing? They look fab!

The planes look great. I love it when you can put a picture together before applying it to the background. I really like the girly quilt too. Machine buttonhole! Is there any other way :) it is a favourite of mine.
What fun!! They look great. And I love your girlie quilt. You are so inspirational.
Your darling little planes are probably in a better position that QANTAS Fiona!
What a happy looking quilt, you will do an awesome job of it x
I use Vliesofix on the reverse side of my applique fabric. I take it you iron the vliesofix on, then position the planes on the baking paper, overlap each piece and iron them together? Then lay them on the baking fabric and iron again? Just trying to clarify it for me.
