A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to be roaming in town with my 2 and a half year old grandson.....
of course town with Nana includes going to the food court to choose whatever he would like....
In the way only children can surprise one he asked for Sushi and so I got some for us to share... I love it too though I only recently felt outrageous enough to try it...
Now little widget comes to stay reasonably frequently.... he has a limited number of things he likes to eat... he loves my soup... but making soup always is a bit boring (for me) so I thought I would add Sushi to my skills base....
Cooked up sushi rice and add some sushi vinegar - nori (seaweed) to roll it all up in
(I used a damp dishcloth but I think I'll invest in a cute little bamboo mat)
Made a lot of mess rolling - I used tinned salmon with cucumber, avocado and mayonnaise
Passed... he ate it all... not sure if that had anything to do with "there's icecream for children with clean plates!"
do you sushi?
Righto... gotto go... food to prepare...
I think I'll have sushi...
Hubz won't eat it so he can have sausage and mash

I'm not a sushi girl but I find all the little kids in my life love it too.
I can't say I like sushi but you make it look good and your handsome grandson seems to approve .hugs Sheila
I do like the taste of sushi but sometimes the smell, when I am wandering the shopping mall, can turn my stomach! Not sure why!!??? Weird!
I love sushi but haven't been game enough to try making it myself, yours look yummo :) Barb.
I don't mind sushi. My son bought a sushi kit & often makes up sushi & if i'm lucky he shares. :) Hugs,
I love sushi. You have to try having a mouthful and putting some pickled ginger on the sushi before you take a bite. I am a recent convert to pickled ginger and I love it. You get a wonderful flavour in your mouth.
Definitely invest in a bamboo mat.
While I don;t mind sushi. I think I am with your Hubz.....bangers and mash will do me nicely!
Well done Fiona it looks fantastic,i have a couple that are picky eaters also,so might give sushi ago.xx
Good on you Fiona..... so great that your little guy gave it the thumbs up too! I am not yet brave enough to give it a go....I'm not a big seafood fan, and that seems to be one of the main ingredients.
I love sushi but don't buy it at the food court anymore since I saw a story on the health risks of fast food. Rice is a real problem. Anything children can eat with their fingers is great. Your rolls look very neat. When I say I love sushi I mean that I love western sushi not the raw fish kind.
What a win - any way you can get kids to eat healthy is worth a try, and your sushi is great.
What a wonderful grandma you are!
Definitely a sushi eater and the clean plates bit --- love it --- as old as the hills and works every time.
I am with Hubz give me sausage and mash every time!!! Well done though for making it yourself, it looks fab.....yeah the old ice cream trick, it usually works!!
Yep.. LoVe it!
Daughters and I often stop at the Sushi Train and enjoy some! YuM !!
Love Sushi - couldnt be bothered making it - but if you have little ones eating it - go for it!
I make it all the time ...but have a lovely plastic machine that is fantastic to make it .... available in kitchen shops... my grandsons love it also they like smoked chicken, flavoured tuna and it is good for the waistline.
Hugs Laurie
looks like the two of you had a wonderful time with your sushi!
He’s adorable
Oh heavens he is just adorable - and to ask for sushi, lol! I've never had it, not sure I want to try. Maybe someday...
I've only tried sushi once - the raw fish one and didn't mind it but hubs is a real red meat guy and reckons anything different turns his stomach. Not too many opportunites where I live to try it again unless I make it myself and I couldn't stand his whinging!
Yours looks very nice and it obviously tastes great :).
Cheers,
Robyn
I adore sushi. We are lucky to have several 'Sushi Trains' nearby. My points reward card is well used!
I just love the way the children are able to taste and explore foods from around the world.
By the look in the photos, you are on a winner.
I've never tried it because of the raw fish but if you used canned salmon it wouldn't be raw, would it.
Great that you found something the little one would eat and managed to get some veggies in there too.
Mama Bear
Oh, good grief No Thank you!!!
