Last week my Hubz was citizenised
He got a lovely Australian plant
and a very smart certificate
lots of people attended the ceremony
the Queen is in Australia but due to unplanned circumstances she wasn't able to attend but there was a nice big picture of her
This last week we saw the end of a dictator
I don't wish that death on anyone
but having lived under a dictatorship who's big friend was Gadaffi
I believe it is very true that if you live by the sword you will die by the sword
My blog is not political but this week
I have been a bit reflective about how lives and circumstances can change
I still think and pray for my land of birth - Zimbabwe
and pray for Libya and it's people during this time
It is a real treasure and privilege for us to be adopted by a new country
and be able to live how we do
I'm linking with Melody's Tuesday Treasures
Sitting and thinking how very lucky we are whilst I am doing some quilting
some straight lines with the feed dog
some free motion
.....a couple of OPAM finishes...
since being given a couple of cotton washcloths I just love them
so I keep some knitting available for in the car
somehow it seems odd to be knitting dishcloths
do you?
Congratulations to your Aussie hubz and to you as well!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to your husband - oi oi oi!!! I knit and crochet dishcloths too Fiona.... does this mean I'm odd? probably xx
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! And we think it's really special to have you here, too.
ReplyDeleteI love the citizenship ceremony and all the different cultures represented at them.
Lots of wonderful Aussies.
Congrats to your Aussie hubby Fiona and i have knitted heaps of dish cloths they are great.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Mr Hugz. He'll be chanting Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi, Oi, Oi before long!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a knitter, but have admired these dishcloths on other blogs. One of my bloggy friend took pity and surprised me with one... Seem too pretty to use on the dirty dishes though.
Congratulations to your husband. I reflected on what you wrote...sometimes humans are so cruel to one another. Glad you are here now!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on you Aussie Hubby! Robyn Gordon Grevillea are beautiful! I hope ou get lots of enjoyment from it!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the mob!
ReplyDeleteShame Her maj couldn't make it, she obviously didn't hear about the lovely cakes you make.
I did feel it hard to see the footage of Gadaffi but I then also thought of all those who suffered at his whim. It is true- the sword fell
I love the wash cloths but won't use them so I haven't been tempted to knit them. The ones I have are very safe from water damage.
Exciting times for your Hubz..and a lovely plant as a memory of the ceremony.... with what is happening at the moment it sure makes you feel fortunate to live in this part of the world...
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to you hubby. How exciting for you both. Hugs,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Mr Hubz! I have never knitted dish cloths...
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to your husband, how wonderful it is to be accepted and happy in your new home country.
ReplyDeleteI only use knitted dish clothes now. Haven't bought any for well over a year, I love them.
Congratulations to mr bubz rugz!!!
ReplyDeleteOh and I love your dish cloths too, very Eco friendly. :o)
Hugs
Joy :o)
Congratulations to Mr Hugz. I'm sure you will have just the right place to plant the Grevillia. I can understand why you are reflective at the moment. We all hope Lybia's future is much improved. I agree that knitted wash cloths are great and so lovely and quick to knit.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to another New Aussie!! I think sometimes we do not realise how lucky we are to live in this beautiful country.
ReplyDeleteNice finishes Fiona.
Congratulations to your dear hubby !Too bad the Queen couldn't make it though. As for the dishcloths I have never made one but have used lots of them made by friends, they are wonderful!hugs
ReplyDeleteA big Congratulations to Mr. BubzRugz on his Australian Citizenship! That is definitely something to celebrate. So I think it very rude that her Majesty couldn't find the time to drop by! (just kidding, of course!) And I always keep the people of Africa in my prayers...I sponsor two children there; one in Tanzania and one in Rwanda.
ReplyDeleteI can't knit and don't have any knitted dishcloths, but I do have some crocheted ones and I love those!
XOXO,
Cyndi
Congrats to him!
ReplyDeleteI don't talk political either. But I am always thankful for what we have; although I worry that if we keep messing around we won't have it forever.
Congratulations to your hubby on his Australian citizenship. I do knit dishcloths and hotpads and love them. They also make great gifts.
ReplyDeleteNola
Welcome to our new Aussie...good on ya mate!...
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your hubby becoming an Aussie. We here take our way of life for granted. We need a wake up now and then so we know just how lucky we are.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your hubby! I've had many political thoughts in the last week or so - both international politics (I felt sick about Ghadafi, even though I know he did a lot of evil) - and local politics - Canada scrapping the gun registry, which I agree with, and imposing stiffer sentences, which I partially agree with. Life seems too complicated sometimes.
ReplyDeleteAww Congrats!!! What a wonderful time for you both :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to our new Aussie.
ReplyDeleteI realize how lucky we are to live in our free country when you see the terrible news reports every night. Incidentally, I love your photo of the iris on your header. Such a stunning colour.
a big 'good onya mate' to your husband. I for one am very happy you both adopted us too.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to your husband! Our world can be a scary place to be at times, so much strife, some by man's own hand and some by Mother Nature. Guess we all have to live for today ..........
ReplyDeleteBeauty Mate!!!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Australia's newest citizen. A beautiful shrub to plant in your garden.
Love those knitted dishcloths.
Happy days.
Bev.xoxo
Congrats to another new Aussie. My hubby did the same thing in 1988.. although he still has his accent!
ReplyDeleteLoved my visit with you and yours... as usual! Thanks!
Wow Fiona, I've just learnt so much about you I didn't know! I didn't know you were zimbabwean (not sure that's the right word!) or that you married a "foreigner". Where is hubby from?
ReplyDeleteOh, and congratulations to him!
I know what you mean about Gadaffi, although it's great that he's been toppled, and although many many people suffered at his hands, I didn't like the way he was killed, it just didn't sit right with me.
I am an odd dishcloth crochet person - I used up some vintage gem making a very lot last year and converted some of my family.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to your new Aussie Boy!
Hey Fiona! Congrats to your Sweetie on his citizenship! :0) Can't wait to see your puppy quilt finished ... I love Toni's applique designs. Hope you're having a great week and having fun stitching! :0) Bear Hugs! KRIS
ReplyDeleteFi, I am so glad that you and Hubz came over here to Oz.. we are so very lucky in this wonderful country..
ReplyDeleteI love your new header...
CONGRATULATIONS to your mister, my dear, how awesome is that! I'm very, very glad that you are both safe and sound and happy in your adopted country. Home is in your heart, not a place, after all...
ReplyDeleteI pray for Libya too, that there are much better days ahead.
