Tuesday Treasure #7

this week I am being quite sentimental.....

my favourite place in the whole wide world must be

my grandparents house on their farm

I am lucky enough to own the original Blueprint

It is easy to recognise it from this design in the top picture....

Drawn up in 1944

so many wonderful memories of that home
christmas parties, family gatherings, mud fights, fresh apples, granny's baking, pop's stories..... etc etc

Sadly during the liberation war my grandparents had to move away for safety reasons and much of the farm was destroyed.
The house still stands but I understand there was significant damage inside and it is not used.

Tuesday Treasure is hosted by Clare and so many of us are having fun finding new and old treasures in our homes. Pop by HERE for a read of todays treasures and we'd love you to join us.

This week I received in the post some patterns I bought on-line.
Judith is having a wonderful 50% off sale on patterns but it finishes tonight so be quick if you want to grab a bargain. For her website go HERE.

I have ordered some extra time so I can make these and all the other things in my cupboard......
That hasn't arrived yet....
if you know of a good supply at a bargain price please let me know

747

Occasionally this beautiful chap comes by to our feeder.
He is a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo and about half a metre tall.....

We call him the 747 as he is much bigger than the other birds who visit us and everyone scatters when the big guy comes along..... (even the dog comes inside!)
Beautiful bird with a raucous cry...

Meanwhile I have at last done some quilting on my 'Bouquet's' wallhanging....

I am still a learner free motion quilter and use a fairly small domestic machine....
This is my first attempt using a contrast thread....
It was easier to do than Widgets quilt (which was stretch fabric and quite clumpy)

The back....(there are spaces as I didn't want to stitch over the stitchery designs..

I am improving but there's a way to go................

This beautiful pattern is a BOM by Jenny. You can find the pattern HERE
Now for the back hanging sleeve and the binding......

Have a wonderful week

Lamb Chops Peri-Peri

We have been having another cold spell mixed with our August winds.....

So we had an easy to make warm winter meal - one of my favourites from my Mum.

4 - 8 chops
1/2 cup chopped onion
In a jug combine:
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 cup tomato sauce
1/2 cup water
2 Tbsp brown sugar
4 Tbsp vinegar
3 Tbsp Worcester sauce
1/2 tsp peri-peri (medium hot - but can be left out altogether)

Brown the chops

Place chops in casserole and add onions and sauce over the meat.
Tight fitting lid and simmer in oven for 2 hours.
I use the slow cooker for 4 - 5 hours

Serve with rice and salad/veges ....

Enjoy..........

Challenge

I hope everyone has had a happy and safe weekend.

Jenny has an August Re-invention challenge on where we make new stuff out of old.  She has some lovely cushions made of a pre-loved shirt.... have a look HERE.

Jenny also has a pretty BOM she is sharing with us. I have finished my Daisy-Do block for this month.

I have long been wanting to try 'felting' so went off and bought a few jumpers.... these were all large size.

Gave them a couple of hot washes and dried through the drier - they are now suitable for a 3year old....

I have never done this before and not too sure if they are really ready for felting but will give it a go - I wonder if anyone has done this and has a few tips on knowing when it is really 'felted' enought??

This weekend whilst hubs gave the birdbath a proper clean....

I worked on quilting the Memory Quilt I have been making with widget's old baby clothes.....
It is not easy as the clothes are various stretchy fabrics.... but we are getting there.  I ended up drawing the squiggles to follow so I would go around the extra pockets and other lumps...  Two broken needles, lots of thread breaks....... any tips????

I NEEDED this cheese and wine for lunch and a bit of inspiration to read whilst nibbling and tippling..

Have a great week everyone

Tuesday Treasure # 5

Tuesdays are a fun day on Blogland when Clare hosts Tuesday Treasures.

I enjoy having a look around our home and thinking about what various things mean to me and why.

This week I am sharing a rather cute pair.....

These were sent to me from way up North (UK).
We have family over there who of course we miss lots and lots....... and these are the sort of things that make me smile!!
(sometimes I even catch them holding hands!!)

They are hanging on the cupboard door handles in the sewing/computer room......
I seem to spend a lot of time in that room these days so they are good company.....
and 'cos they make me smile!!

Then Wednesday is a fun day on Blogland too - 'cos then I go back to Clare's and see what treasures everyone else has shared.

Anybody can join in the fun!  Just pop over HERE

Thanks Clare.....

Home is Where the Heart Is..........

After a lovely week up North - Hubz ordered home made cake! Yum.....

I have been catching up on the blog reading and getting to know Carol at The Patch Craft who is my FRIENDS swap partner, hosted by Khris.  This is my first swap so it is fun to meet a new friend and I will enjoy thinking up, creating and shopping for her.

Just before I went I received these lovely fabrics from Bec from Oh Sew Busy who was selling them as they were surplus to her needs.........

It is a panel and Robert Kaufman fabric (including backing) to make this lovely quilt... Bec might even have another spare if you want to check with her......

I have no quilts at home - they all get given away - so this will be for our home - for when we have little visitors!!!

Bec showed her friends lovely Noah's Ark quilt - you can see it HERE.........

Last year we were blessed with Grandie #3 and I used the Noah's Ark pattern from Kookaburra Cottage.  We made a few adjustments cos the little fellow has Zimbabwean and Maori heritage and is Australian by birth..... this is his quilt:

We only changed the centre panel - I added a Kiwi, Whale, Fern (apparently he is going to play for the All Blacks!) - I like lizards and butterflies so they went in too........

I took some stitchery to do on holiday.......... these are from Ella & Skysie Designs (No.251 - Farmyard Animals).  There are wonderful products and this is her blog site HERE.  There is still patches to be sewn on - that's why there is only one eye...

On return from holiday my pattern from Judith at Creative Studio was in the post........... I won it in her July challenge for the Early Birds Christmas gifts and am really looking forward to making it up.

As you can see it is a Lynette Anderson design and the little Hugo button was included....
Really lovely - thanks Judith.............

Better get to work......... hope your weekend is wonderful.
