January......

Almost the end of the month already.....

At the club I go to if there is 5 Tuesdays in the month the last one is a de-stash day and people can take in things they no longer need.  So far I have never sold but I have often found a few bits of fabric I don't really need!

Another scrap quilt started this weekend..... this only uses small amounts of colour fabric so ideal for those smaller scraps in the basket.  They are little buttons - the blocks are 4" as is and will be alternated with plain white blocks in between.  I have some white 'sheeting' I purchased yonks ago so I will use that - lovely and soft.  I will do as many blocks as I can in each colour (I would like 96 at the end of the year)  RSC colour was dark/bright blues but there are a few ring-ins there....

I did this months quilting on my Quilt Along - also using Scraps.  On Williams Street is hosting this and I am combining it with RSC.

The other blue one is my house which was the first idea.... one house each month...

I hope I can keep up with the 3 of them.

Finishes this month included last years RSC fish quilt.....

3 little draw string bags....

And a long waiting to be quilted Charming Stars quilt......

... and a little basket was made.... also from scraps....

Thank you January.....

Righto, Gotto Go... need to collect up some coins and small notes for tomorrow's de-stash... coffee first of course....

January Week 4

Daughter, Grandson and cat are now rehomed here.... mostly we only see the cat as the others are out and about.

Apollo has made himself quite at home....

I did manage to get this block for Gossip in the Garden finished this week.....  Michelle, who I am sewing along with gave me that teacup fabric some years ago and I've never been sure what to make with it....  fits well in the pot doesn't it?

I have started on the borders for CWB --- it's a looooooong process and the vine is a bit fiddly so it is going very slowly....

Cheryll is hosting  TGIFF (Thank Goodness It's Finished Friday).  I made up this little basket yesterday using some of my black and white scraps and paired it up with some bright red linen (also scraps)

Joy shared this pattern as she is hosting One Gift a Month Challenge.  It's a nice quick basket and can be filled with something nice when the time comes for a gift.

I'm glad I had Cheryl's nudge and Joy's pattern link or I wouldn't have had anything made ... it's been lots of bits and pieces lately.....

Righto, Gotto Go.... I want to read what others have made, but first..... COFFEE refill and an allergy tablet (why we don't have a pet cat!) ....

Hope you have a lovely weekend.....

January Week 3

Another week gone past so quickly.

This block has been worked on for a couple of weeks and finally finished....

And three more 'pies' were appliqued onto background....

Some machine time over the week saw the blocks added to the others and now I have a completed centre of Civil War Bride....

I love it.... the borders are traced and I will slowly do parts of it over time..... not rushing

I started another quilt for Rainbow Scrap Challenge .... this block is 15 1/2" and I will make it in each months colour with the cream seeded background.

The block is for a Quilt As You Go quilt-along hosted by On Williams Street and each month we will be given a different quilting design to do.  I think it will be great and help me with quilting ideas as well as use up some of my scraps.

I often buy cotton sheets (not high thread count) to use as backings and have a set of 4 pillowcases which I will cut up and they end up the perfect size for the backings for these blocks.

Hoping over the next couple of weeks to get the quilting done on this block.

Another new project I am starting is 'Gossip in the Garden' from Hatched and Patched.  Michelle and I are going to sew it together  with the loose goal of one section per month....

I have started with this stitchery, done on some plain white....

A lovely pattern with applique, embroidery and of course the best part is making it with a friend....

Righto, Gotto Go.  Youngest daughter is moving in here with teenage son and cat - rental properties remain difficult so this will be their temporary accommodation.  Today is pack up day of her place to put into storage.

.... but first, some freshly made coffee ... have a great weekend.

This week

The week has sped by - it's been a busy one with various things...

9 more 'pies' were appliqued onto backgrounds.... and a bunch more of EPP pieces glued on for stitching into pies...

This bright cheerful quilt is on the frame... made in December 2018 - All over flowery feathers you can see in the turquoise border...

At machine sewing day with friends I made a start on some of the old shirt quilts.... at this stage I am making the broken dishes blocks....

I had 6 coordinating fat quarters, I prewashed as it was loose weave and they did shrink a fair bit so I'm glad I had.... and I made them up into simple fat quarter draw string carry bags.... gone into the gift box

The binding has been added to the Charming Stars quilt.... free pattern from HERE .  The top was made in a Sewalong hosted by Terry in 2015... so it's been in hiding for a while.  I used a favourite line of mine called Papillon

Custom quilted the stars, sashing and borders... fairly simple to keep it soft...

Found a very pretty backing.... the colours are dulled in the picture but there is more pink

I have a quilt too big for my frame so I have pinned it up and will do it on the sit down machine when I need some sit down time....  It's a kit I got years ago and made up the top in 2019 called Les Courtiers.  Lovely French General fabrics.

Looking forward to the weekend, a couple of quiet days at home for me.  There is sewing stuff everywhere in 'that room'....  I hope you have a lovely one whatever you are doing...

Righto, Gotto Go... coffee needs topping up....

FNWF January

Cheryl is hosting FNWF again this year... wonderful.  Friends from all over getting together and sharing what they did over the next couple of days.  It's fun to visit other blogs and see what they worked on that evening....

I took up work on my Civil War Bride block - doesn't look much just yet but a way to go...

Today a dump run and picking up a new to me recliner chair a friend is getting rid of..... then a walk around the golf course .... (not that I play).... hope to stitch a bit more of this block this evening..

The dark/bright blue scrappy Brickhouse is made

RSC is hosted by SoScrappy and I am using this free pattern from Fat Quarter Shop

Last years RSC is together now.... I didn't do all the colours as I hadn't calculated the size of the blocks and this was as big as I wanted.... it's a child size throw.

I quilted it all over in watery swirls - now it's finished I like it more than I did before....

The back is pieced with left over backings from other quilts....

I had a couple of days sewing with friends and worked on my EPP pies, sewn and appliqued onto background...

Other hand sewing (like during marathon video chats)  has been working on this block for Civil War Bride....

I only have one more block to do and then the borders.....

Lots of cutting of shirts has taken place.  I expect I will need to do more but I will make a start this week on sewing and then assess where I am once some blocks are together.

Righto, Gotto Go.... I want to prep up the next CWB block - it's always a messy task...

Have a lovely weekend....

Starting 2023

This year I have decided to join in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge again..... run by SoScrappy.

I am going to do this Brickhouse Quilt....  a free pattern from Fat Quarter Shop.....

Evenings are still evenings with hand sewing in front of the TV .....

I did have a sewing day with friends and worked on some more of my 'pies'.  These are ready now to have the papers removed and get appliqued on to a background.

Another Field Journal block done....

And a couple of days spent quilting this old UFO....  this was made in a Sewalong hosted by Terry in 2015.  It is called Charming Stars.  A Moda free pattern found HERE

The binding is made and waiting to be sewn on...

Shirts continue to be chopped up... it's quite a slow process fiddling to make the pieces fit within a sleeve, a back etc...  still got quite a few to do...

Righto, Gotto Go...  must go and dig out a bunch of dark blues for my Scrappy Brick Houses...

Wishing you all the very best for 2023 - may it be as good as it can be for you and I look forward to reading/sewing with you....
