ChooseDay sewing

This week's One Block Wednesdays are done....  I had a few already done so only had to make some of them....

Lyn does lovely embroidery (as a business) and gave me these two personalised towels... they look very sophisticated having the monograms in the same colour as the towel....  pretty as well as useful

It's been a while since I have done any work for the Moda Blockheads blocks where I am trying to use scraps... some of the blocks are big and I have had to delve into bigger pieces.

This week I got this one done... It's 24" square ……… like a quilt on it's own and nearly took me the whole day to do!

Mind you we did take a bit of a break and watched a movie for a change....  I borrowed this from the library so we sat and did some hand sewing.  A delightful story even if it made me cry a bit!

I didn't have much to do on this little block... in contrast to the pieced one this one is 4" …

another block towards my United Stitches - still lots more to go....

Righto, Gotto Go..... the day is bursting with anticipation …. (not really but I'm trying to get motivated!)

.... and more....

I have one daughter living nearby and she has to always be the one to visit on mothers day, and on fathers day, and on birthdays etc. since she is the one nearby...… I feel her pain!!!  She is a person who is very thoughtful about gifts and making days special, like getting balloons, and arranging lunch etc.

This year she gifted me this lovely granite serving board.... it's very heavy.  I guess could also be used for chopping.  And this lovely pot plant, which I know Hubz will care for.....

On Sunday we went on a bit of a road trip to a sweet country town called Forest Hill.  Hubz and I were meeting up with Michelle and the Mr for lunch …..

Michelle made me this mini quilt... with 1/4" hexie flowers... they are ridiculously little... and many of them are fussy cut too!

… and she also did this lovely picture of a favourite creeper/flower of mine (wisteria) ....

… such talent and I am very blessed to have her art in my house...

Forest Hill is a lovely country town and there are a few heritage listed buildings to see

This is the old bank (you can see bars on the windows)

Every good country town has a Pub.... I love the curved roofing

… well a couple of pubs … this other one is literally just across the road.  The cast iron edging is so beautiful

The Post Office, which still is a Post Office but is also a café and gift shop... and where we had lunch together...

On the way home Hubz and I drove by the University Campus... this lovely old building was once used for students dormitory, then as a hospital ward for Americans during the war.. it is now Student services.

I have been working on a design of Michelles and done a bit of EPP of my own... these little fat Dresdens... actually they are not that little but to me they are very fiddly.... hard part done and I enjoyed appliqueing them down.

Righto, Gotto Go..... need to sort out sewing projects for ChooseDay.....

Celebrations......

Many of my gifts are from bloggers... and are crafty related so I am going to share what I got for my birthday....

I was lucky enough to start celebrating during the week

Christine (ChooseDay girl) baked a lovely ginger and lemon cake.....

and gave me this beautiful pack of French General fabrics - and a piece of hanky linen ....

My Siblings in Law in UK ordered a lovely bunch of lilies.  The florist actually delivered a week early but dropped off another bunch of buds on the correct day in apology for the mistake.

It's lovely watching the buds open, and they have a very pretty scent

Kiwikid Sue made this sweet heart mini quilt … all little hexagons joined together....

.. and Shez sent me these lovely Civil War half metres….
(they are more green than grey/blue they look in the picture)

Hubz spoilt me with this lovely silver chain (just so me) and a soppy card....

We went out for lunch with my local Daughter and her son (widget) to a lovely new restaurant at a vineyard just nearby.

My chicken dish was very tasty - and so was my lemon curd meringue dessert

One of the wonderful things for a birthday and social media is the cards, messages and calls that come in from family and friends all over the world.  We did have to juggle times a bit this year, my eldest son was on holiday in New Orleans with his family and my eldest daughter in France with her daughter at a dance competition.  Another son in Melbourne but that's not a big time difference.   A brother in Zimbabwe, one in New Zealand and one up north in Darwin.  In laws in the UK.

As much as we would all love to be together at occasions like this it is just impossible.

Righto, Gotto Go.... more to come

This week....

I made up a little mitten for my One Christmas Item …

They really don't take too long to make.... but it's still a good reminder to get something done that will be needed by the end of the year...

…. I also made up myself another Bondi top.....

I wanted another 'tidy' one... and I just fell in love with this fabric....

I think that is the end of my clothes making for a while....

In the evenings I have been working on 4 little fat dresdens for my Wings and Pretty things quilt.  EPP just is not one of my favourite techniques to do though I love the look.... so smallish amounts is perfect for me

They will be appliqued onto the cream background this week.... that part I do find fun! haha

…. and I had a birthday....

Righto, Gotto Go.... lunch catch up date today....

Mid-week making....

I am pleased to be up to date with my stitched postcards..... (though I would like to be up to date making them up with their fabrics into blocks)

This is going to be a lovely 'travel' quilt.....

ChooseDay sewing I concentrated on getting a few Bondi tops made.... I have fancied this pattern for a while but after past bad makes for myself haven't done anything like this for ages...

This is my pretty one (it will also be my tidy one for wearing out the house) ... the fabrics (and pattern) were purchased at The Quilters Angel and when I saw it I knew it was exactly want I wanted to make with it....

Because I have a hard time only making one of something I made some others... this fabric was actually an old tablecloth which had been passed on to me... but it is so beautifully soft and pretty I decided to wear it instead.

This might suit a nightie more... but it is perfect for something cool around the house....

This was my first 'fake' one I made for practice and to see if the pattern was okay... I needed to add some to the shoulders (coming towards the neck as this one shows off my tatty bra...  I also wanted the neck cut a bit deeper so I made those changes to the others....

Here I am wearing the cool light one.... very comfortable.

The Bondi pattern says they are lovely to wear with skinny jeans... which I shall do... when I can fit more than an ankle into the skinny jeans....

Big lovely moon last night.... they say it's a super moon... but it seems to me that we have been having an awful lot of super moons.... I may be wrong.  Not that it matters.. it was still pretty

I received a card today... it was posted just before Valentine's day in the UK... don't you love the little stamp they include.

12 more blocks for One Block Wednesday done....

.. and the latest block for Loopy's sampler quilt...

…. as you can see the blocks increased in the number of pieces as we go along....  I do like this one - Quarter square triangles or Broken Dishes I think.....

I want to do a whole quilt of them... one day....

Righto, Gotto Go.... there is the rest of the week to do.. and lots to be done in it....

FNSI February

This Friday was

hosted by Wendy.... thanks so much

I worked on a postcard …… still got the border to do ….

on Friday waiting at my front door from the postie was a surprise from Sue.... she had seen my lovely Hoya and found a pretty white one so she sent it up to me....  It was so well wrapped that no damage was done at all....

Thanks so much... it's going to look gorgeous with my other one.....

During the week I did get another postcard done …..

… and I pulled out these figurines to adorn a tallboy dresser....

the detail in them is wonderful.... so beautifully painted

…. even the seam lines at the back of the jacket....

.. they are all damaged … this one has had a thyroidectomy and lost his little nest in his hand...

I'm sure there is some significance about holding a nest... any ideas?

Just look at that clothing … such pretty fabric....

not sure I could cope with the romance of that era... but it is lovely to look at....

Righto, Gotto Go..... coffee is brewing.... then I'll have a wander over HERE and read what others sewed last night....
